Hi I'm Deep Purple from England.
Love the A10-- first saw it back in the seventies at a airshow at Greenham Common along with the new \" Tomcat\"
Well the Hog aint pretty but she outlived the Tomcat
The closest I got to one was on Static display at the Wright Paterson Air force musuem in Ohio.
Great Aircraft
Bit like me ugly but kinda cute, but gets the job done!

Welcome Deep Purple.

Sometimes the ugliest jets are the best.

F-4 Phantom II was nicknamed \"Double Ugly\"...yet is still the world's leading supplier of used MiG parts. :)

A-10...\"Ugly, but well hung\". Best in class!

Welcome here Deep Purple.... great to have you here. Yeah.... back in 1980's and early 90's UK was home of a large fleet of Hawgs. I remember my visits to Bentwaters; awesome base and great flying.

Cheers.

Just poured a nice big \" Sex on the Beach\"--- vodka, peach snapps, orange juice & grenadine

Got a nice hog Tshirt on Zazzle a couple of weeks ago ( and it fits case I'm a big guy)

Anyone know if any A10's are being flown in the Uk at present?

Deep Purple, I don't know if I understand your question right, but if you mean if there are any A-10's based in UK, then the answer is simple; no! The last A-10's were out of UK in 1992 (from 10th TFW, Alconbury) and Woodbridge in 1993. After that, there was only one small deployment of ConUS based A-1o unit; 175th Wing (104th FS) with 4 A-10A's at RAF Lyneham under Exercise CROSS - SKE. That was the very last time any det. operated from UK soil.

Cheers, and enjoy your drink!

Thnax Rangerman for reply.
I'm located on the South Coast of England well away from where any US forces fly. Nearest air bases are Boscombe Down which is used for testing and Fairford, which can take everything including B52s--- but I dont think there is a US presence there at present.
Nearer me is the Solent where they do moor US aircraft carriers visting portsmouth--- the harbour is too small to get the big vessels in.
They look good with all the F18s etc up on the deck

Deep

There are still two Hogs that I know of in the UK...

First is the horrible-looking static display at RAF Alconbury and the second hangs from the ceiling at Duxford.

Welcome to the forum. You missed all the A-10s at the 81 TFW, six squadrons and 120+/- Hogs during its heyday!

Unfortunately, the last A-10 aircraft departed Bentwaters on 23 March 1993, and the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing was deactivated on 1 July 1993. But if you ever get the chance, check out the Bentwaters Cold War Museum in the old Command Post bunker. It's well worth the trip!

I believe a few Hogs from Spangdahlem (81 FS) make the trip over to the UK on occasion, but even that squadron is scheduled to shut down in the coming year so your chances of seeing a flying A-10 are slim!

Cheers! M2
