(note: offensive language may follow..) I really wasn't sure where to make this post, and am writing off the top of my head...but: I just read this article: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20021219/D7O0L35G1.html and I have a few (possibly un-popular) opinions... 1) The fact that a leader is willing to destroy his own territory and harm or kill his own people to make others look bad is reason enough to uproot him. 2) In another AP article (no URL handy,) I read that aircraft involved in OSW have been broadcasting pirate radio signals with Anti-Sadaam messages. Make the facts from this story know to the Iraqi people. Allow them to defend themselves and support action against the Hussein regime...we are defending the non-combatant Iraqi nationals as well as our own people. 3) I could care less if we have to destroy a few mosques! Civillian casualties and collateral damage should be kept to a minimum, but this will be a war unlike any other we have fought. This will be a combination of WWII and Vietnam, with the scenery and terrain of the first Gulf War...protecting all non-combatants is impossible! If we must kill 1,000 good people for the good of millions, the sacrifice is worth while, and those people would agree. 4) If we must resort to guerilla warfare in addition to standard air and ground supremacy, so be it. The U.S. and it's allies have the greatest fighting forces around, and we can handle resistance in the streets. 5) The Special Republican Guard will NOT play by our rules. That is a fact. If those bastards want to hide behind women and children, we will allow them no where to hide. We need to have our men and women on every corner of Baghdad streets, willing and able to discern the best time to fire and follow through. We will need air support in the form of helicopters and we must not hesitate to use it. Again, if a few civillians get wounded or killed, we must recognize it as for the good of the whole, just as we do when our own soldiers, airman, marines, and sailors die in conflict. 6) We need to have a plan, as we did in Afghanistan, to replace the governemnt and began re-civilizing the country of Iraq. We must recognize the culutural differences, and not cross racial/religous boundaries, while maintaing the fundamental rights of the Iraqi people. Remember, "All men are created equal," not "All Americans are created equal." It is up to us to ensure that everyone is allowed a reasonable lifestyle. It is also up to those of us in uniform to defend ourselves, our families, our nation, our constitution, and the rights of others from all enemies of freedom...no matter what the cost. a "multi layered defense" GREAT! we'll peel it like an onion, beats looking for goons out in the random desert. I dont dissagree with much of what you said Raven,just about "It is up to us to ensure that everyone is allowed a reasonable lifestyle". It's up to the people involved in the "unreasonable lifestyle" to resist THEN we can do something about it. But I support an "action" against Iraq cause we'd just have to do it later anyway. Pre Iraqi nukes, or post? I prefer to get him now, while he doesnt quite have that capability. I only respect those that Have the Will and intestinal fortitude to stand their ground against the American Fighting man and women. As for the Rest Expect Hell and Brimstone falling in your line of retreat and Rear Echelon Command and Control Centers. |

The hell of it is, no matter what we do at this point, we're going to make enemies out of the rest of the Moslem world. The only justification is if we are directly attacked or Iraq attacks an Arab brother and they ask us in again. There is no doubt in my mind we've got another Hitler here. He will do what ever it take to stay in power. Think about this, there is something like 100 UN inspectors looking around in a country the size of California. Do you really think they are very effective? The aren't going to find anything worthwhile. And so Sadaam will buy more time to postion himself to do so real harm.
