Well as for the A-10 she is a lady named Joan who lives in NY and she is still alive and well and watching the A-10 on CNN! Here’s an email received by the A-10 SPD last week which he passed along to me...
Col. (SPD):
No doubt, you’re familiar with “Bitchin Betty”, the female voice incorporated in the A-10 LASTE computer. The voice is my wife’s voice and her real name is Joan.
She was hired by a production house in Binghamton, NY on behalf of GE Flight Control Systems, in the late 80s to record the sound clips you now hear as Bitchin Betty. We’ve always been proud to know that her voice has kept at lease a few A-10 drivers out of harm’s way.
Is that system still current on the A-10 fleet? We’ve been watching the latest from Iraq with pride and curiosity, but would like to confirm that Bitchin Betty is still up there with the pilots.
Can you confirm if “Bitchin Betty” is still alive and well?
we are grateful for your time and service.
Best regards,
Mark #####
I confermed this with Lockheed Martin. I also withheld her last name for reasons I’m sure you understand, but if anyone has any questions for her I would be happy to pass them along. I know this may be useless knowledge but as most of you know I love stuff like this!
BTW we answered and told Mark "Betty" is still alive and well!
Ugly but well hung!
