Most of the A-10 models I've seen have been 223. The reason is they are all based off the 23rd Fighter Wing commanders jet, 80-0223. Althought most of which I've seen Have had the tail # 79-0223, which is another 23rd jet. Has to do, mostly, with the Tiger teeth.

You are right about most A-10 models featuring the Flying Tigers of the 23rd FG either when they were based out of England AFB LA or their current home at Pope AFB NC.
RC-Hog that tail number is bogas because the first A-10s (Two YA-10s) were not built until 1971 and production A-10s from 1975-1982 (not counting the 6 pre-production in 1973).
There was a 77-0223 but she crashed in 1988. There are two more 223s but you would have to change the marking to the 23rd FG Pope AFB NC. for your model to be 100% right.
Ugly but well hung!
