Does the army fly A-10's? Got into a discussion about this, because I was surpised to find that the Air Force flew them, which made me more motivated for the pilot program. Then my friend said that the Army does not fly them. Can I get a conformation?

Also, since I was in hurry when I filled out my registation info I added '@hotpop' to my users name, could a moddie kill that for me?

No, the Army doesn't currently fly the A-10. There was talk in the early 1990s when the plane was first going to be taken out of service of that happening, but it never materialized.

Boy..did you ever open the can of worms. NO THE ARMY DOES NOT FLY THEM. They only wish they could. There was some talk about if and ever the US Air Force decides to get ride of them, the US Army wants them. Seems they can't live without us HAWGS. However, back in the day, the when the US Air Force branched off from the US Army Air Corps, an agreement was made by the higher ups that the US Air Force would be the "primary" CAS (Close Air Support) holder of fixed wing aircraft. This has run into many issues and controversies, due the ever changing nature of the battle front, and political funding. If your looking to be a pilot in the military, you need to talk to the group out here on this forum, go to your base and talk the pilots, and ground crew. Don't just listen to the adds and recruiter. Also, the type of airframe and power plant has alot to decide on where you'll go and what you'll do in the military. Helicopter training is much like balancing on a greased beach ball, while flying a pointy nose is like riding a dispences bullet, and flying an A-10 is like flying a tank with wings. Bombers, and heavies, well, I don't know much about that. That's more my wife's expertise (BarksdaleAFB)<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>. Me, I'm partiale to my HAWG (WhitemanAFB)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>. So talk around, do your research and then let people like myself know. Sort of interseted in what you decide.

Hopefully by my sig line you can kinda tell I am partial to the Air Force. And if not, well currently I am a Cadet 3rd Class in the Air Force ROTC program at University of GA. I wavered between AF and Army until I realized that AF pays more and the more intelligent people, in general, head that way. And besides, what can't you love about the new BDUs

I heard that they are looking for navigators in the Polish Underground Balloon Corps. Maybe you could get a job flying A10's with them. <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

If you go army, the best you can do is the AH-64 Apache.

Hmm. Just depends on if you want to fly something with a "splatter screen" (AH-64's) or a 30mm 7 barrel mike mike with 11 pilons of death dropping power. To the AH-64's credit, the damn helio may acheive higher speeds though!

The Army can not fly fixed wing (combat)aircraft.This came about after the AF set out on its own
