Hello everybody!

This is my first post in this forum. My name is Alvaro in I live in Madrid, Spain. I discovered a-10.org while searching some photos for detailing my 1/72 Italeri A-10. What a great site, congratulations!

A year ago, I could read "Flying the Warthog in the Gulf War", from Smallwood, and I fell in love with the A-10 :) Later, when my sister gave me for Christmas the lit, I was very happy and, after some months waiting, I can build it.

Model depicts a 110th Fighter Group ANG, with tailcode BC 258. I think there are some photos of this model in the gallery, showing hard damage in one engine nacelle. I'm gonna painting it "gray scheme", and I would like to know how to paint Mav missile... white or green? and colour of body stripes and lens, please... I'm confused.

I'm very interesting about the red stripe in the rims, in front and main wheels... which is its function?

Another question... I'll travel to New York City in mid-February... some good shop where buying military patches or stuff??

Ok, anything else, sorry my poor english and thanks in advance.

Álvaro

welcome Tundra, you have stumbled upon THE best A-10 site on the planet!

Maverick A model and B model are usually white and have the TV guidance.
The G model is usually green and has the IR heat seeking guidance.
For modeling, the A and B version lenses should probobly be gloss black. If you REALLY wanna go "cool" on modeling the TV guidance lens, take a section of the clear "sprue" (the plastic trees the model parts come attached to) that the windscreen came attached to. drill a hole the very same size in the front end of the missle and glue the clear sprue in there with a little sticking out the front. Then carefully sand down the clear part with sandpaper untill it almost matches the front of the missle. Then sand it down to match the missle with very fine sandpaper. It will look pretty cool and if you put a drop of clear gloss paint on the end of the clear part after sanding it will look GREAT!

Yellow stripes on weapons mean a real weapon, blue stripes mean a training weapon. Lots of pictures on the internet to help you out with where and what color.

I dont know anything about the wheel stripes, but somebody here does.

The red stripes on the fuselage and gear pods visually indicate that the landing gear is down and locked.

Yeah the stripes on the gear allow a chase pilot to verify that the gear is down and locked ifin a pilot has an unsafe light.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Very good info, guys.
Thanks you for this welcome and very pleased with the info.
I believe green Mavs look more cool in gray A-10 <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> with yellow lens (good tip!)

Another question, every A-10 aircraft involved in Op. Iraqui Freedom belonged to ANG? or are they in USAF inventory?

Regards,

Álvaro

Hawg166 aren't you contradicting youself?
Just a couple of subjects down in "A-10 Story in Citizen Airman Mag"
You talked about Battle Creek being the 1st into Tallil.
It's no big secret who's A-10s have been there.

By the way Alvaro, I spent part of last year in your country and it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I'd love to go back and spend a month touring on a motorcycle. Loved the place.
Cheers

Alvaro, you can find a lot of information on that in the press, I would advise a Google search. Might check www.af.mil, I can't access it from Belgium, but you might.

I've only been to Moron Air Base near Seville, but it was lovely. Actually, the motorcycle "gang" that I belong to is having its annual European gathering in Nora (http://www.clubpaneuropean.com/NOJA/Ingles/Welcome.htm), unfortunately I will be unable to go due to other commitments, but it looks beautiful there.

Cheers! M2
