Any pilot types care to comment on what A10's as of now are testing this pod ? Also whats the difference between this and the Litening II ? They seem to both be the same to me.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I know you weren't Hawg166 and you did nothing wrong by posting the press release and asking the Q, it's just the info I have is a bit deeper than in that press release and for militry only.

He needs a Camera so he Can Do photorecon and BDA.

In fact lets give him some tin foil confetti and an intercomm with the PIC.

When the PIC screams "Sam Launch" you better be ready to dump Chaff!

Maybe possibly a ballute or Low Drag Mod even.

I can see possibility of Doing an Autonomy kit. GPS guidance, Wing kit for extended range. Add in a box of nades or a MK19 and we could let these Sniper pods loiter the battlefield.

the question is though. Do we provide a Fullton Sky ook recovery system or do we Winch him out like a tactical decoy?

hmmmmm I kinda likethe Tyndel Tow Drone mod idea.

M&M lets headshed this a little more!

Perhaps with a liberal application of liquid courage?

The Sniper pod will be getting to jets for testing in a few months yet - it just started lab integration. As far as it goes, the Sniper is actually more comparable to the Litening AT than the Litening II - they're both a newer generation with the improvements you'd expect - better resolution on the video, better processing, etc. You can get good pictures and tracking from a long way off.

Well according to a freind that is a whole hell of a lot more in the loop on this than I ever will be, Lockheed hasnt even put a pod on an A10 yet because it physically doesnt fit. Apparently they are working the issue now. Also why would we want the Sniper Pod when the Litening AT/ER is just as good with less LRU's to change, new FLIR software being applied, andthe Guard/Reserves A10's have allready flown a couple thousand combat hours with it. If I understand it correctly, Lockheed who has had the contract for a couple years, but has yet to field one of these pods needs to put up or shut up.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

True - they are working the fitment issue now. Also, the Sniper pod won't replace the Litening - it will be an alternate option. So if you only have Snipers because all the Litenings are in use, you still have a pod to use (or vice-versa). As far as the Litening ER vs. Litening AT, the AT is much improved over the ER. The ER is a good pod, but the AT is even better.

Thanks. I love this site, it's a great A-10 resource. I've been reading the boards here quite a while, but I don't usually post - obvious by my post count. I try to learn info when I'm here, now I gotta figure out MUGS...It'll come to me sooner or later.
