129 Came from Battle Creek. It came to us from Alaska around 1990. It was transferred to Barnes while we were swapping jets around for PE inputs. We ended up with 689. It was actually our highest time jet and had very little problems with it! I was not the Crew Chief on it but i'm sorry it took a shit when you got it!

Maybe we should use this websites pic on ours.

I think it is cool, especially the background.

The website says it all...about the commander, the unit, the people and the attitude.

So is the 188th a ANG outfit or an AFRES unit?
Because if it's a ANG unit why is it on a AFRES site?

I'm sorry I just looked-up 4 web sites, offical sites for the 188th
and guess what?
NOT A DAMN ONE WITH A A-10, SAYS A-10 or anything else but F-REAKING LAWNDARTS

How long has it been now?
The 188th being a ANG outfit and the first A-10 picture posted offical like is on a AFRES site from the 188th

Those guys over in the AOR got to have some relief and back up ASAP.
When the \"Bad guys stick their Heads up this time\" it's going to be a rough one\" and those Grunts and Ground Pounders
NEED AIR SUPPORT as in CLOSE AIR SUPPORT

Only the A-10 can give them that.

Remember ,

GO UGLY EARLY

Much to my own frustration, the 188th's website has not changed in years, and the state it's "frozen" in now happened well before the transition to Hawgs.

I'm going to check Arkansas's other Air National Guard Wing website and see if they have updated theirs recently, maybe it's systemic of the AR Air National Guard and less the lack of attention by the 188th.

Just checked the 189th Airlift Wing's site and it's as pitiful as the 188th's, but has been updated more recently.........July 2008.

I wonder if the AR Air National Guard doesn't alocate much in their budget for websites..............

So true.

Andyman, doesn't matter how much money is allocated if the commander wanted the site updated bad enough he would make it happen. Heck I would update it for them if they would let me. It's a shame that units that loved the A-10 and it's mission lost their Hogs to a unit that frankly, doesn't seem to give a damn.

HawgWild, it's also a shame you have to catch all the flack here because, it seems you do care about the unit and the A-10 but, have very little support at home.

I left the A-10 along time ago, 1991 on the ramp at KFIA on 02/27/91, another day and the AIR WAR would of been over.

But I 04/85 at the 23rd TFW and went to back and fourth between 62-2653 and 80-0166 those first 3 months \"Training\" I guess since they forgot to send me to school and such. LOL . But on July 1 1985 I became DCC on 80-0166 until that day in February 1991 in the \"Sandbox\" and \"Mack\" took her over, I was happy they gave her to another DCC who would take good care of her.

Then later on She went to Billy with the Mass ANG and another DCC who took good care of her for ALL those LONG YEARS.

So since June 1980 she has had only a few DCC's Billy the longest, then myself, followed by Spud, Swap bird and Mack , those days at Barksdale are very short I guess waiting for Billy.

I think that's why this is such a \"Hot and personal Topic\" , Tempers, Remarks flying , back and fourths .

I worked on 7 airframes and never seen this kind of \"Dedication and \"Love\" The best word I can think of, for a Jet.

Not just 0166, take any jet number and get a couple of HogKeepers in a room and you'll probably find out who's jet it was and what it was like ..

So Lets see what the 188th can do, see how they treat the \"Old Girls\" , see how they stack-up against the units they replaced.

You guys got a TALL ORDER TO FILL THERE, Those \"Yankee's \" have been Kicking Ass for 20+ years in some cases with the A-10's .

And another thing the name \"Hog\" is alright in saying \"Hog Driver\", Hog Keeper\" because of patches that stuff,
But it's not a \"Hog\" it's a \"Warthog\" I know it's a bad habit that has been started in the A-10 Family that we need to stop but saying

\"Warthog\" shows Respect and Pride for the Old Girls

Hog is a Farrow Pig

Andy and others why don't you get on the AR National Guard website and contact the state PAO and mention it to them maybe if it come from the top maybe they will pay some attention to it. In fact I have a beef with the states website when you click on the Air Guard tab it only mentions the 189ths mission and history.

I think the bag of S%&t Billy was referring to was 79-0216 that came from Moody after the 70th closed down. 129 was a replacement for 78-0640 that got PE modified and was sent to Nellis as an ANG test aircraft. Although not a full bag of s%^t, 79-0129 was kinda like hookin up with the ugly sister of the hot girl friend that broke up with you. BRAC still sucks!

Thats alright, depending on which 188 they got stuck with, the Jet has a Germlin in it that shows up in  it's lights at the worse times,
Now during the Gulf it didn't happen much or the Pilots just said \"Screw it\" .

Then the Damn Aft fuel cell can read 200-600lbs off at any one time if they haven't found the problem.
If you refuled it, you had to have a \"Tool\" to get the thing to read right.

I didn't want to come off as being sour on the 188th or the AR Natl Guard in general......I'm sure they are going to be very busy the next few weeks with all the tornado damage that happened last night.

From a civilian it would be nice to have something a bit more updated and helpful with how and who to contact at the various units.....but I've obviously got an agenda when I say that would be "nice to have"

Thanks for all you do Hawgwild.....the 188th needs all the friends they can get on here.

They got Popped pretty good over in that neck of the Woods yesterday,

I hope everyone is alright , and no harm came to any of them, some deaths did occur ,

The 188th has to \"Belly up\"

But I'll hold off on the \"Cartoon comments\"

Its all good.

We'll get Andyman there to snap some pics and let you see that we aren't just sitting idle.

On a side note we had many call to volunteer to help out our neighbors in Mena. We also have members that live in that community and many are there helping them now. Our prayers go out to each of them.

Happy Easter All.

Go Hogs

This is what puzzles me about the guard...what good are Hogs for local flood relief? Why do governors need fighters?

Coach, the Guard has long since moved away from what their original mission was. Today, the Air Guard is nothing more than another reserve force controlled more by the pentagon than the Guard Bureau and the state. The Air Force loves it because it costs them next to nothing, National Guard funding is a seperate line item in the federal budget. Not only does it not cost them money, the Air Force is also able, with NGB approval, to draw funding from the GREA, a huge source of $$ I've talked about before. GREA funded a great deal of the initial costs of the \"C\" mod as well as the LASTE upgrade, CMS and a bunch of other stuff, and that's just on the A-10.

The Air Guard came about at the same time the Air Force split away from the Army in '47 and has evolved into what we know it as today. The whole deal was a power play by a couple of Generals and there's some interesting reading out on the web. If you're interested in military history do a Google on it..it's kind of a fun read.

The Guard both Army and Air have dual missions, federal and state.

On occasion personnel are asked/tasked to assist in recovery missions from natural disasters. Mostly from torandos, hurricanes, ice storms and flooding.

Ecery FEMA region has states taht have specilaized teams that respond after a terrorist attack and do mass decon of civilians.

In fact the guard is the first responder in most rural states.
In our recent weekend tornado it was the Army Guard that was tasked to assist. During the ice storms in Jan it was joint Army and Air response to the 18 northern counties in our state.

We had 0-6's to E-1's that volunteered in LA and MS during Katrina and many that asssited with the 10,000 evacuees from NO that also arrived to us via C-5's, C-130's and tour buses.

Our Civil Engineers has one of the ten pre-staged disaster relief beddown systems in the nation ready for any major disaster also.

No need for fighters during these events but you do need good people with specialized capabilities that want to serve.

Hawgwild,

I don't think anyone is knocking the Guard on their \"Stateside mission \" or what they do overseas\" ,
But its the idea that you either have to now \"Figure out\" are you a First Responder or a Front liner\"\"

With the A-10 That should make you a \"Front Liner\" and that's where your unit should be going, to relieve those units that have been in the fight on their 2nd and 3rd tour and give those folks and Jets a Rest.

You guys haven't even made a \"Puddle Jump yet Have you??\"

You guys did pass your ORI didn't you??
