Dice, email me your mailing address and I'll have another disc with a whole mess of pics of doors in the mail next week to you. I'm just waiting for one last jet to get back from off-station on Monday. The disc will have pics of every jet stationed at Eielson except for the ones still at depot (I think 3 or 4.) I'll get those to you as they arrive back.

Thanks Jackb that sounds great!! I've looked at the jets here at depot and none have art so don't wait for them to come home. BTW send me your snail mail addy and I'll send you a PE patch, when they arrive, for your trouble.

This place and you guys are just the best!!

Jack, would you be willing to send me 2-3 so I can use them in my Aerosoft A-10 project?

I want to paint every unit and if I can add door art it would be awesome. I would really like to do AC 81-238(355OS) & 81-979(354OG) because they had the Black/White text.

If you could provide pics of the pilots & CC names for that part of the panel it would be a bonus. I really love making the skins as realistic as possible.

appreciate any help you can provide. If you can't then I totally understand as well. Just thought I would ask.

There's no 81-0238 here, there is a 80-0238 though, I'm sure thats what you mean, but that door is blank, won't be for long though- it's my jet. I'll see who's on 979 and send you an email this week.

Jackb, your jet 80-0238 was this....

and 979 was Iron-ass...

TG, question, why do you need such high rez shots for you skins? When I did skins for Janes USAF the pics on my site worked well, is this sims skins that higher rez?

979 still has the same door. As for 238, it's a brand new door, not that one painted blank. Even if that was still on it, I think I'd paint over it just to put something of mine on it. My jet at Osan already had art on it, but I didn't want to paint over it, even though I had a few designs in mind. I blew one chance, I'm not gonna do it again. I'm still batting around some ideas, but I'm kinda leaning towards something having to do with the movie Shrek or Ice Age. They are 2 of my favorite movies ever, and for reasons too long to go into here (kind of a you had to be there to get it) either would make it very personal, that is my door. I'll be sure to post a pic as soon as I decide and have the jet down for a bit to either do it myself or have it done by a good artist if it's too complex for me.

Sounds good to me jackb, that's what door art is all about personlizing your aircraft....Ice Age and Eielson sounds like a good match!

I have alway wondered what "Iron-ass" meant to the crew, if it's the same crew (or someone who knows) ask them if/when you get the chance.

Yeah, now that Hitler wrote that, I have to tell the tale, ore else any conclusions one may jump to sound sick. We were TDY at Nellis, and me, Hitler, and a few others went to go see Ice Age at a movie theatre on the strip, the one with the M&M museum in it. before the show started, we go to the bathroom, and in one of the urinals.. Oh... My... God, It was sick. it was overflowing in puke, really gross, but still funny. So we get our seats and were waiting for the show to start, and I just start laughing, more and more, next thing you know, I cant hardly breathe I'm laughing so hard, people in the theatre are looking at me, like whats wrong with this guy. I know it sounds kinda dumb, but like I said, you had to be there to get it. This was like 2 1/2, 3 years ago and I, and obviously hitler as well, remember it like yesterday. Just a really funny memorable TDY moment. In fact, it was so memorable, the other day me and one of the guys who was with us when we saw Ice Age went to the movies, and we saw a poster ofr another movie called Robots. It said it little tiny letters on the poster "from the makers of Ice Age". I didn't say a word, this guy looked at me, pointed at the poster and asked "Hey Jack, you rememebr that bathroom in Vegas?"

Joe, the template for the door art is 1024x1024 so you really need to start out with a high rez shot. Otherwise all the resizing distorts it so bad it's not worth using.

I know it's only a small part of the game but when there is an option to put in the real stuff I like to strive for perfection if I have the means ;)

Wow, 1024X1024, I guess that's why the aircraft looks so nice in the sim! Jackb, did 226 (duces wild) ever get color added?

nope it's just permanent marker still. I know the Crew Chief did it himself, I'll ask him this week if he ever plans on putting color on it.

Dice- I sent a cd with the pics on it today, and I just sent you an email with info regarding a few of the doors.

The DCC for 226 said he would like to get it painted...someday....but he's in no hurry.

Noone here I've spoken to yet knows the story behing 979 (Iron Ass), but I'll ask around some more. I may know the person that painted it, I'll check with him next time I see him and ask.

Oh, and 238's old door, (chickenhawk) is history. Gone. Forever. Unless someone at depot managed saved it. The door was changed in Bagram and they were forced to NRTS it.

Sorry, been busy with the World Wide Review! As always a big thanks for the CD and the art info jackb and I will get you a patch in the mail as soon as they arrive!! Maybe you can ask the AFETs rep there about Iron-ass (he's a friend of mine) and tell him Joe from Hill is looking for the info.

Well at least I have a couple of shots of "chicken hawk" for "the record" and looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

I spoke with the guy who painted 979's door. (Same guy who did at least 187, 207, 969, 944, one of the jersey barriers at Jaber, a big painting in the snackbar in the AMU and soon my door) He said that was something the DCC specifically requested. He said it was WWII nose art. I know who the DCC at the time was, but I don't know him personally, he's in AR now. If I ever see him around I'll be sure to ask for more info. Noone else at work knows anything more about it.
I met Mr. Ross at the AMU Christmas pary a few weeks ago. We got to talking and he said how he was gonna give you shit becuase you removed the picture of the cheerleaders in front of the jet with door art on it from your page, calling them juicy's and stuff. He's a good dude, definitely good to know a contact like him. I work swings, so I haven't seen him sice, but if I see him around I'll be sure to see if he knows anything else about any of the doors.

Jackb, that little tidbit on Iron-ass was all I needed. I did a Google search and found a number of aircraft which carried the iron-ass nose art during WWII. I believe a B-24, which was lost over Germany, was the first to carry it but, I will look into it a bit more as time allows.

As far as 226 goes, the way I look at it the art is a comic book style art so doesn’t need fancy airbrushing to look good. If I were the CC I would use pastel chalk to get the colors the way I wanted them and then pant the door with model master paints and a brush. I’ve talked to people who have painted door art like this and it worked great. It’s his choose but some bright comic book style colors would make that door look great IMHO.

I totally agree, but he's not exactly the most motivated crew chief you'll ever meet. I was kinda surprised he'd even put anything on his door.
I spoke with the unnofficial squadron artist the other day about doing my door. It will be done for sure, and you can count on me posting soem pics as soon as its done. (maybe a month or so between getting a final idea on paper and downtime for the jet to do it during)

Sounds good Jack, looking forward to it. If that unoffical artist would like credit for the doors he's done he (or you) can email his name and a list of doors, I will keep that in my records.

Jackb, could you do me a favor, I had "Junkyard Hawg" listed as being on 80-0258 a BC jet. Can you ask the CC if that door has been on his jet all along? I'm pretty sure I'm the one who has it wrong but it's always a good idea to check.

Ok, info on 3 jets - 258, 178 and 149.

258 - This jet was at Eielson, but quite a long time ago. You are correct though now it is at BC. In fact it was the one that was hit by a SAM during OIF. I asked a friend of mine who was the CC on it when he was stationed here (89-92) and asked him about its door art. He said it was a buzzard holding some BDU's.

178 - The 'Junkyard Hawg' art has been on that jet since about a year after it arrived here (I believe it came from Barksdale) around 94 or so. It's been that door ever since.

149 - Got the story behind that door, I though it was pretty interesting. When the CC at the time was assigned to it, he said in about his first 6 months we went through like 16 pilots being assigned to it. In the Bible, Jezebel is the name of a whore. So he named the jet Jezebel Hawg, and painted a hooker warthog on the door. The DCC on that jet now is the same as the DCC from 239 at Osan (Thunder Kiss) and he hates the Jezebel Hawg (can't say I blame him- it's about my least favorite too) and has plans on redoing it. He's thinking about Calvin and Hobbes in the wagon, but really badass looking. We saw a Navy video that had a quick shot of that kind of thing, and he was like 'that's awesome, I'm putting something just like that on my jet'. Without seeing the picture we did, it's kind of hard to explain, but it will look extremely awesome if he ever gets it done.

I always wondered where the Jezibel Hawg came from! The first time I saw this door I was walking through the hangar here at Hill and that “hot pink” color caught my eye. I said to myself “what the hell is that”! I walked over and said WOW I wonder where the idea for this one came from. To tell the truth I thought the Crew Chief might have been a female.

I have always liked this door just because of how different it was from anything else I’ve seen. I tell you what, it take a real man to wear a pink shirt/tie….or have you’re A-10 ladder door painted hot pink with a whore on it!!!
