First let me say a big thanks to Carl for sending me these door art images! Carl I was only able to tie a couple to a tail numer (see images below) but, I did post them on my "unknown art" page on my website so I hope to get the tail numbers for the other doors soon.

http://www.warthogpen.com/unknown.html

I also have a couple of questions on a couple of the images. First is the one below, it just doesn't look right. It's not painted on the door but appears to be forward of the door. The shadows fall across vents but doesn't seen to be broken...do you know what the deal is with this art??

<img src="http://www.warthogpen.com/unknown_files/unkown18.jpg" border=0>

On the door below the "east coast demo patch" looks strange? It looks to me like the A-10 and lightning bolt on the patch is upside-down??

<img src="http://www.warthogpen.com/unknown_files/unkown20.jpg" border=0>

Here's the ones I was able to put tail numbers on....

Mikes Missy Dice,

is painted like what would be seen if the ladder door was closed.
Since he couldnt put it on the outside it was put on the inside and who ever did the Air Brushing is GOOD.

look at the bottom of the picture,you can barely see the outline of the bumper where it was.

It has to be a B-FLT bird ,several Mikes down there,we didnt as far as I can remember didnt as Crewchiefs.

Hey Guys
The door on MIKE'S MISSY hashad the inner face of the door painted to look like the outer skin They did a great job but on other pics of this door the stenciling does not really line up from the outer skin to th inner door across the top
The first time i saw this art it looked like the door was missing untill you got up to the jet.

The DEMO PATCH IS LIKE THAT,WITH THE INVERTED JET AND LIGHTING BOLT

79-0182 This door was repainted after CAPT DALE STORR was shot down
BEFORE it had said something like "NEVER WRESTLE WITH A HAG YOU"LL GET DIRTY BUT THE HAWG LOVES IT" or something like this as best i remember

Ithink we picked up 79-0184 from the 74th to replace 181 when it was shot down

Do you want Nose Art off A/C from the other wings jets at KFIA? I also have about 35-40 different jets and DO have TAIL#s to go with them. And most of our kills (76th) most with TAIL #s.

Damn, thats a hell of a paint job on "Mike's Missy". I didnt even notice the little break at the botton until you ppinted it out, Goose.

The Scar ,Tom and jerry on the door were the Crew on that jet
Scar being the pilot,Tom DCC and Jerry the ACC.

Alot of the DoorArt was done using ideas from the crews,which even made it more special.

No one knows just when she was named "LIZ". The AVGs 3rd Squadron named The Hells Angles painted her on their aircraft. The unit was named after a 1930s movie by the same name.

The AVG had three Squadrons: 1st Pursuit Squadron "ADAM AND EVE" Sometimes called the "GREEN APPLE" Squadron HAD a green apple with a snake around it,on the apple are stick figures of ADAM running away from Eve with the words "The First Pursuit"

The 2nd Pursuit Squadron "Pandas Bears' Patch of a big "PANDA BEAR"

And the 3rd Pursuit Squadron "Hell's Angels" had The Scarlet Angel

ALL the AVGs P-40s wore the Sharks Teeth. When the AVG was disbanded at midnight JULY 4 1942 and taken over by the China Air Task Force. These three units became the 74th Blue, 75th Black, and 76th Red Fighter Squadrons Of the 23rd Fighter Group.
So some one who knew the history of these units painted the Angel on our jets IT had to have been done down at KFIA cause no jets were parked at the FOLs long enough to be painted I can not remember when they were painted. But she was on some jets that were ICTed at KKMC during the later part of Desert Storm.
I ran across an U S ARMY unit several years later 95-97? The 3rd BN/229th. WHO are also called the Flying Tigers. They use almost the same patch as the 23rd BUT IT HAS THE ANGEL RIDING ON THE TIGERS BACK
This unit told me her name was "LIZ"
