Hello all,

In addition to being the uniform worn by 2951st CLSS personnel, the blue utility fatigues were also worn by USAF ICBM crews from the late 60's to the late 80's (they now wear green flight suits). I'm trying to track down a pair of blue fatigue pants, something close to a 36\" waist, to complete a uniform I have. I've been looking for over a year, have tried countless surplus stores, but still haven't found anything (other than blue BDU-style pants and civilian work pants). Thought this might be a good place to try.

I've attached a picture of a Titan II ICBM crew, for those interested. This was taken in the missile procedures trainer (MPT), at the 308th Strategic Missile Wing at Little Rock AFB.

I wore them for 2 years, but I don't think I have anymore left.

I know they still have them for sale, I saw them looking for a M65 jacket.
US Calavary might have them or Sportsmanguide.

Yeah, I've got an internship at the Titan Missile Museum (a preserved Titan II site) and I thought it might be interesting to conduct a tour in uniform. I'll follow those leads, thanks!

Checking those two sites, I couldn't find them. I found Proper BDU pants and some Dickie's work pants but I didn't the military-issued ones. I can't figure out why they're so difficult to track down. The shirts are fairly difficult to find as well.

Find the OD Green Fatigues, there still around and dye them Navy Blue.
I get a extra set or shirt or what ever and chop it up first and see how much to use, but I remember the ROK's doing that for guys while over seas that worked T/A.

i have 1 shirt I found thats a medium (man I was young ) and it looks more sliver from the starch.

There use too be several different sades of Blue in those Fatigues, depending on what you got. after you washed them they got light pretty quick. As far as those 6 pocket BDU pants, just take off the 2 extra pockets.
Your Blue Dickes are just fine anyway for both shirt and pants, wash them several times, knock the color down some and them give them take them to the cleaners and have them Heavy Starch .

The Color Patches and stuff you won't know the difference, just don't wear low tops wear the 8\" combat boot in black without being gussed up.

Looking at the shirts I have the shade is AF Shade 1577, which was standard for missile crews. The other three shirts I have just say \"Shirt, Utility\" or \"Shirt, Utility Type II\". Any shade of those pants will match fine, I'm more concered with finding a pair instead of worrying about the slight color variations.

I was thinking about taking a pair of OD pants and dying them, but I wasn't sure if it would turn out well and if the dye would run off in the rain or come off. That would be the prefered option and then the only other thing to do would be to swap out the OD buttons for the blue buttons (have to find those first). I actually bought a pair of blue BDUs, but the problem is they are fitted by a range of sizes (ie Medium, Large), as opposed to a specific inseam. It didn't really match well.

I'll hold out and try to find the originals but if I can't find any when the trip rolls around I'll have to use something else.

Ok here you go, these are basically 1577, but were Navy Issue.
The same uniforms. These are the Old Days Types.
They look just like T/A uniforms, Missle Uniforms, Base Flights etc.. , and after the USAF went to the BDU's the 1577's for \"Special Duty\" came from the Navy or were Blue Flight suits.

When you wear the 1577, you still wear the OD M65 Field Jacket with Blue Stripes and Name Tapes etc.. Color Patches or The unit would get a wavier from command and have special Blue \"Bomber\" Jackets made and use Name Tags with velcro .

SAC had their own way , but I know the M65 was worn with the 1577 tapes and Color patches, Never wear the Dress Blue Jacket.

For missile crews, field jackets weren't authorized, but I believe they were authorized for maintenance crews (they wore the OD utility uniform). In the colder seasons the crews would have snorkel parkas, and in the warmer seasons they had flight jackets (or no exterior jacket).

I did pick up a pair of those navy pants and if I wash them a few times they'll work. I'll keep holding out for the real deal but until then these work.

AFR 35-10 had it you could always wear the OD M65 Field Jacket with the Blue fatigues and or \"The Units or Wings \" issued outer wear.
Some Missile Mechanics wore White Coverals .
It all depened on your \"Unit\" , I went to several \"Sites\" on T-39 missions (Crew Chiefing) with a ** or so on \"Dog and Pony Shows\" and can remember seeing the Crews wearing Flight Suits, and the Support Crew wearing Blue Fatigues.

Well If I see any I'll let you know, but I did find mine, and those poor things look Silver their woren out so bad from being \"Pressed and Strached\" so much>

I do appreciate it! Missile crew uniforms (for USAF ICBMs at least) have evolved over the years. During the early years of the program, the air force purchased actual white painter's coveralls (there was a memo sent out to remove the hammer loop. One time the entire 390th SMW crew force showed up to be-depart briefing with hammers in the loop! Classic!). I have seen a couple (what appears to be) maintenance guys wearing the small coveralls in the pictures I have.

In 1967 (or around then) they switched over to crew blues (blue fatigues), and wore those until 1989 (the last Titan II wing, the 308th SMW at LRAFB, shut down in 1987). At that point they switched over to the \"blue bag\"; essentially a flight suit made from blue polyester fabric (and not fire retardant!). In the late 90's the blue bags were ditched (too expensive to produce), so they went to standard flight suits. Here's a photo of a Minuteman III crew with the new computerized command and control system, REACT.

I thought I remembered the White Coverals, that was when you were down in the Silo, not outside.

I only saw 1 Silo in early 83 , It was pretty cool,but I never wanted to do it.

I rather of been on Alert on a BUFF or a Tanker.
