Little Update. I know a Warrent in the kiowa Community that was apart of this event, and had asked me on the outcome of the pilot of the lawndart. The tail numbers match...

I passed on to him this thread, He may show up and pass on some of his History involving the event.

First of all, it's pretty amazing the power of the internet and thanks to MrMudd for redirecting me here. I'm a Kiowa pilot with "another" branch of service and currently deployed to Iraq for the second time. I have a couple of photos I took of Maj Tices' F-16 from the first time I was over here in 1990. Back then I was an aerial observer in an OH-58C. We were on a mission in Western Iraq doing a typical screening mission. Our scout weapons team was tasked to go provide security for a crashed aircraft at such and such grid. We had no other details of the site. When we arrived we expected to see parts and pieces everywhere. However, amazingly the aircraft was in extraordinary condition. It was broken up into two parts primarily aft section and front section. When we landed my pilot got out and inspected the site while our Cobra gunships provided cover. When he got back he said that the canopy and seat were missing and that the pilot had ejected safely. The F-16 apparantly had been there awhile. We relayed back the our Bde headquarters the details of the site and had to depart because we were getting low on fuel. We departed and that was all we ever knew.

That gives a quick synopsis on how I came involved looking for the pilot of this aircraft. Last year I came upon a database that an individual maintains of US aircraft and their dispositions. I found the serial number on his site and found out what unit it was from. I quickly found out that the unit had "disbanded." An Army move and a deployment to Iraq shifted my focus elsewhere's; however, I've always wondered if this pilot made it out alive and possible send him copies. I'd like to thank "MrMudd" for redirecting me here, and letting me tell my story, albeit a short one. I will have my wife send me the photos of the site and get them scanned and post them.

OK. Sorry it took so long, but had to get home from Iraq on leave and find them. After looking at the pics again, the latter half of the aircraft is still intact. The front section apears to have desintegrated. Pics to follow.

Now that I have figured out how to post images on this forum and seems like I can not edit my above post; here is the first one again. Thanks to MrMudd for hosting my pics.

This is good stuff!

I must apologize to you all as I was put onto the F16.net forums and posted in the general topics forum. It generated a great deal of interest there. I will say that posting here has paid off and I want to thank you all for you assistance!

The canopy is now at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tuscan, AZ. I was told that they will be doing a thing on POWs in GW1 and the canopy will be the center piece of the event. I look forward to seeing it at the museum one day!
