MAJ Jeff 'Tico' Tice

Many of you may know him from the AF News stories about his time as a POW during the first Gulf War. I don't know him but I have something that belongs to him that many of you may be interested in.

First, introductions: I am currently an Army Warrant Officer and have been in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division since Aprl of this year. We arrived at an old ADA base in Iskandaria, Iraq back in April. While there we came accross an F16 canopy that was saved by the Iraqis as a war trophy from GW1. The canopy is in very good shape and has the names of the pilot and crew chiefs on it. Other than a small wrinkle and a yellowed 'glass' area, the canopy looks as if she came from a new bird. A friend of mine is an AF OSI agent and he helped me track down the pilot that has his name on the side of the canopy: CPT (now AFANG MAJ in AZ) Rossen. MAJ Rossen told me that the bird was in fact his bird but that MAJ Tice was flying the bird when it was shot down on day 3 of GW1. He was taken POW and detained for the remainder of the war.

I want to locate Jeff Tice and tell him the story behind what is left of his bird. I would also like to contact his ground crew. I still have the canopy with me in Mosul, Iraq and will be bringing her home in January. When I get home and the boys are on Spring Break from school, we are loading up and will be delivering the canopy to MAJ Rossen and his current unit in AZ. The canopy will be doanted to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tuscan.

Please help me if you can! I will refrain from any Air Force jokes if you guys can help me out!

Can anyone recommend a place to go look? I am trying to get this canopy shipped back in a few weeks. I really want to track this guy down if at all possible.

sstrucknguy, let me know what you find (best place to start may be the global email system and see if he's listed) and if he's listed call him and let him make contact.

If you come-up dry let me know because I have a few pilot contacts at HQ/ACC who may be able to help.

SS, if you know his full name and a previous address, i can do a skiptrace on him.

It would cost you about $50 though, the service is not cheap.

Shouldnt it also have a sign that says "No soliciting"

That's what it would cost me man, sorry.

It's not legal for cops to do it anymore, btw.

An onpost address would be fine.

Lemme know if you decide he's that important to find, lol. ;)

If he's in the ANG his email might not pop up on the global.
I was looking for some folks I know that are at an certain ANG unit I used to be in and their address did come up.
Seems they may have their own system.

Hey all.

I was surfing through looking for my old tail number when I saw Tico's name. Too weird. Jeff and I are casual friends. We flew together in the USAF and now for the same airline. I sent you an e-mail Vulcan, and if you still have the remains of the canopy, he would love to know. If you get a chance, get him to tell you the whole story. It rolls down everybodies socks. What is really weird is I helped nominate and frag the mission that almost killed him while he was a POW.

Send me an update and I will forward it to him. Many of us are very sensitive about letting our names or addresses out. There are some bad people trying to get even. He will, I am sure, get right back to you. He is a great guy.

Cheers, Conan

I expect you have his address and have been in contact w/ him by now, but if not, please contact me directly at jamiesroach@aol.com to get it. Jeff 'Tico' Tice retired out of DMAFB several years ago.

First, I want to thank each and everyone of you for your interest in this subject. I apologize for not being in touch with you over the past few months. Time has not been on my side due to redeployment from Iraq, getting back home and getting all of our gear back from Iraqistan. The good news is that I have the canopy from and F16, tail number 87-0257, sitting in my driveway. Additionally, I have been in contact with Major Rossen in Arizona. As you recall, CAPT Rossen and his ground crew had their names on the canopy.

Here is the plan: I first want to find Jeff and the ground crew. This summer, if I can get the time, I am taking a trip to Arizona to meet Major Rossen and hand the canopy over to him. He will then turn it over to the Pima Air and Space Museum.

The crew:
ADCC SSgt Daniel Toro
DCC TGgt Bill Hinchey
My guess is that niether are still on active duty. The 614th has long been deactivated so no help contacting the unit I assume. My next move is to place an ad in the Air Force Times. I assume you guys have a locator section as the Army Times does so that is the route I will take.

If you guys can help me track these folks down, I would really appreciate it! While I was pretty busy in Iraq and I saw some interesting things, this canopy means far more to me than anything else. I have a piece of history and I want the players to see it.

Vulcan did you ever find the ground crew and did you take the canopy to Major Rossen?
