Fairchild Airplanes & the People Who Built Them" Washington County Free Library is co-sponsoring an A-10 Pilots reunion as part of a Fairchild Reunion at the airport where the A-10 was built. Too bad this event was hurricaned. The Hagerstown works did final assembly for almost all A-10s made. I wonder what is done in that factory now? That's another place that has a lot of obscure historical significance. For instance, they built B-52 wings there as well as the C-119 (flying boxcar), C-82, C-123 (the movie star of "Air America", "Dumbo Drop" and "Con-Air"), FH-227 (a Fokker copy ) and Pilatus turbo-porters (also in "Air America"). Sherman Fairchild (an IBM founder) started the aircraft company so he would have suitable aircraft to use his cameras (from Fairchild Camera and Instrument Co.) and take airborne photos.
