Boomer, I found the story that goes with this pic over on the Navy's site. http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=6717 I <i>knew</i> I had seen it somewhere before. Great pics!

"G" mabee it's the wrong link or whatever but they dont mention that plane just it's squad, cool stuff though.

Will do Dice, I have another from Dirtistan that you may have seen already, I'll send it too.

Do they "tail code" planes before they get shipped overseas or is that done in the local shop?

I also have a pic of a B-52 going supersonic, but I guess no-one wants to see that...

Boomer, all unit markings are placed on at the unit, IE tail flash, base code, unit patches, and the "faces" like the 23rd Shark Teeth.
Thanks for the pics!

Crap...you're right. I just buzzed through the story, and looked in the picture gallery with it and saw that pic. To quote Sniper's sig line, NUTS! I'll see if I can find where I saw the story about that pic. And I'd LOVE to see that B-52 pic! Come on...don't tease us like that...share the wealth, man. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Didn't think you were allowed to put B-52 and supersonic in the same sentence, boomer! Do tell. Maybe the Navy heard that the desert is like an ocean of sand, hence the brown -18. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Unless they plan on patrolling the muddy Mississippi! <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

At what angle was the BUFF flying? Nose down and did the wings fold like the B-1s?

Once watched a BUFF from my bedroom window almost hit my house back around 1962. I think he was trying to get around the Nike sit a few miles from my home and must have hit a down draft. He hit all eight engines as hard as he could and went almost straight up. Even brick in the house was rock and rolling by the time he got some altitude.

Oh I should add this in also back in the `70 I had a home about 40 miles southwest of Barksdale and the A-10 use to use my car to make runs at low altitude as I drove through the back roads. I would slow down and speed up just to give them some work. They would cut across me at right angles at about 200 feet and about ten seconds apart then go around for another pass.

OK here's the "supersonic" Buff. It's a fake, a poor one, and I had nothing to do with it as far as any of you know ROFL

Uh oh...I think I know the story behind THAT pic, too. That isn't the BUFF that crashed at Fairchild Air Force Base in June of '94, is it? Nevermind...I just saw the copyright on that pic.

the guy who posted these pics said it's almost a normal maneuver for a particular type of "toss bombing".

Yeah, I noticed that the copyright on that pic was 2000 right before I posted (which makes me wonder why I went ahead and posted that message). Looks like a pretty radical maneuver for something that big, and it is a really cool pic.

I saw the guy that crashed at Fairchild do his stuff in 1991. Never would have guessed a B-52 could do a near-hammer-head stall maneuver.

A sucking chest wound is life's way of telling you to slow down...
