And other people in the know.

Without getting too specific(for obvious classified reasons ), how is super cruise achieved? Is it all in the engines or does it have to do with a combination of engine/air frame design?
I'm asking this because I want to know if it can be attached to existing air frames.

It's all engines, but you need some degree of aerodynamic slipperyness(if that's a word, lol).

Supercruise is possible because of metalurgical advances allowing a turbofan to use very low bypass and still operate at very high RPM's. In the past, the temps/pressures involved would've blown the engine up.

We covered this ad nauseum in the first ever thread i posted at here.

M&M can get into all the theoreticals- if he wants to, he knows a lot about this stuff.

The F/A-22's engines produce more thrust than any current fighter engine, especially in military (non-afterburner) power. Called "supercruise," this characteristic allows the F/A-22 to efficiently cruise at supersonic airspeeds without using afterburners. This capability greatly expands the F/A-22's operating envelope in both speed and range over current fighters that must use afterburner to operate at supersonic speeds.
The F/A-22 will incorporate Pratt & Whitney's new F119 engine. Designed for efficient supersonic operation without afterburner use (supercruise), and with increased durability over today's engines, the F119 is a very high thrust-to-weight ratio engine. Advanced technologies in the F119 include integrated flight-propulsion controls and two-dimensional, thrust-vectoring engine nozzles.

Well, I'll tell you one thing: I'm confused.

Tritonal, it was in Hog Chat, and was at least a year ago.

The thread was called JSF or something like that....and was about 15 pages long.

It's good theater, hehehe.

Thanx for your take A-10, it doesn't exactly match what i've read, but since you actually build these sorts of things, i will digress....for now at least. ;)

I saw the post; it was a pretty lengthy one.

Have other existing aiframes been fitted for this technology in the experimental models ie. advanced f-15 and F-16 Xl

I read a report that this technology will make its way toward the super-hornet; that is if funding is available.

A-10 Stress, with your experience, do you think super cruise can be achieved on that particular airframe?

Damn, sometimes I wish I majored in aerospace engineering....

I could of handled all that fluid mechanics !?

I think.

Does the presence of external/internal stores affect the supercruise ability? Will it work better/worse with external stores, or will it not make a difference?

I'll wanna' read what Stress says, but I say yes- as a result of parasitic drag.

What's parasitic drag?

How bout sloshing of fuel on the fuel tanks? How much effect would that have on supercruise?
