it's waaaaayyy too late for Boeing to jump in, they were nipping at the 380s heels with all sorts of mods for 747 and 777 including sleeper berths above the main cabin in 777. But anyone who wants an outsized liner has put in thier orders for 380, more will follow but not enough for Boeing to make a dime on it.

I think Boeing has had a crisis of confidence over the last 20 years.

They couldn't make their mind up whether to go supersonic or ultra large and ended up doing neither.

Have they completely given up on the flying wing concepts?

dude other than the SST during the 70s they never even TRIED supersonic. The Sonic Cruiser was a straw dog, they were hawking a more efficient conventional plane (the 7E7 now) behind the scenes to the airlines the whole time they were showing Sonic Cruiser to the public.

Perhaps it may be too late for boeing to get the mega sized 747-600 out first, BUT they were second place to the UK when the 707 was launched, as it followed the comet, however, the 707 became ubiquitus, where was the comet, flying with the 1960s easy jet, Dan air! history may well repeat itself agian!

it would be in Boeings best interest to release the 747-600, and even propose a full length double deck version, 747-800??.

Comet had the world by the tail right up untill they started cracking up and falling out of the sky, Boeing showed the 707 was fast and safe and the rest is history.
