The Sheffield was hit by accident. The Argies were aiming for Hermes.

if only, most of the good stuff is classified. Thrust to weight ratios and fuel quantities have been posted all over the WT for Hornet SuperHornet and F-14. And that's about all you can really get, the rest is conjecture and good/bad guesses. Fuel burn rates per speed/altitude would be really helpfull for range comparisons.

It doesn't really matter to the dead sailors on the Sheffield who the Argies were aiming at.

I've got some bad news for all the Naval Aviation fans out there. Marine Corps Aviation as we know it is going the way of the Dodo. If it can't go aboard ship, in ten years it will be gone. That means all the D's and their 700Lbs less fuel capacity. I love the hornet but no CAG in his right mind is gonna let an aircraft with as limited legs aboard his ship. The JSF has to be the answer, there are no other bubbles to fill in on the scan tron. Go NAVY

Oh how I wish......actually it's just because I got out of another promotion (been doing GS-11 work since I was a GS-07; I'm a GS-09 now...) but my supervisor is working on something (new guy, actually has a brain) and mostly, my best friend who is stationed at Nellis is visiting for a couple weeks, headed down to Valdosta (Moody AFB) this weekend to visit friends & party, then down to florida for Xmas week....nothing special...just realized that being unhappy over an X (together for over 2 years) it was time to be me & be happy...so..no...no morning nookie...but I'm working on some "prospects" for future nookie ...and if all goes well...

Oh...and to stay on topic F-15s RULE!!!

Fixed wing only of course, (unless the MV-22 program further unravels, highly unlikely but possible, HH-60's for the Marine Corps), It is called TACAIR intagrration. It is a circling of the wagons of sort. There will be Navy Captains as the CO's of Marine Aircraft Group (MAG's) and Marine Colonel's as CAG's. All Marine gear that is controlled by blue dollars, that is tactical, will be able to go aboard ship. Exit F-18D's, enter stage left the JSF, WSO's need not apply (plenty of room left in the prowler community, maybe). I fly a desk in a dark basement with no windows.

I flew T-34's, T-45's, C-12's, and a couple of other aircrafts along the way. I am an admin puke now. If you want your budget calculated I am your man for the next two years.

f-18d'S on CVN's, not gonna happen. They just don't have the legs to be a safe carrier aircraft. To give you an idea of how short the legs are on a hornet, without tanks, almost every world war II Navy carrier based aircraft had longer legs. That's fifty years ago! For the Marine Corps range isn't that great of a factor. Expeditionary in nature the Marine Corps keeps it's Airfields near the battle space. However, the navy needs to be able to project power ashore, reach out and touch someone. F-18d's, can carry fuel or weapons to the enemy from a maratime range but not both. This is not the airforce, there is no tanker support for immediate strike missions from a CVN. Square peg, round hole, ain't gonna fit. I love the hornet, and I mean love it, nothing performs like it. but it ain't gonna work.

VMA (aw) 533. They wre in my CAG for my two deployments on the Big John in 86 and 88. In 94 doing Deny Flight in Aviano they were with me again, except I was in the Air Force that time. In 99 when I went to Hungary for the Kosove thing they were with me again. I dont know if I follow them or they follow me. Always a great group of guys though.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson
