Just had a friend here at work email me this link.

Seems a BDU-33 fell off a bird at Nellis and hit a civi-truck. I remember this happend once when I was at DM. It hit about 30 yards from a patroling Arizona DPS officer. Nobody was hit, but there was hell to pay for all of us loaders.

It was a lawndart that dropped it wasn't it?

Seems like the right section to me unless it turns out it was a Hog.

Didn't an F-16 just drop one too?

To be honest, I wasn't sure what airframe had dropped this one, so put it here JIC.

Fact is, it's more than likely more an issue with the TER and the BDU adapters and the little lock tool that loaders are supposed to use to ensure that the bomb is fully engaged in the hook. It could happen from an A-10 just as easily as an F-16.

Another thing I noticed in the video, was that the BDU-33 they showed, so people could see what it is, had bent tail fins from being over torqued with tightening the sway brace adaptor. Couldn't begin to guess how many of those I'd flattened just over the 4 years I loaded.

Sniper,
Not that I know of. There was some confusion around here over whether or not it was an A-10 or an F-16, but it turned out to be one of our Hawgs.

Ice Pirate,
From the sounds of everything, it was mechanical with the TER. there were a lot of factors with the whole thing, but the basic gist is the pilot thought he had a good release over the range. The hook never opened fully on the TER, and the bomb fell off just prior to landing.

BDU-33'S falling off isn't a new thing, We had enough in our days at Alex.
But the best one was when the Guy was \"Fishing\" at the \"South Side Bayou \" and \"Caught One\" (Snagged it)

It was all over the papers down here at the time, the Guy got \"MAD \"because \"They wouldn't let him keep it after making sure it was safe\"
