Last Thursday on a training flight out of Westover AFRB a C5 lost two of its tires. I had a local news link to post it but the page could never be found. AF Link had nothing on the incident but military.com does and if you go to their site and type in c5 tires in the search block the story will come up. There are a number of responses to the story all ready but I was just wondering if anybody in this forum had any thoughts on the incident. |

Could be anything from metal fatigue to a maintenance error. You'd have to see either the airframe or the tires to even hazard a guess. OC |

Hey Mike, I sent an email to our former crew chief and R&R guy that is an AR guy over there. You know him but I dont want to put his name up. I told him to stop smokin weed on the job and stuff would stop fallin off. It is the exact same email I sent him a few years ago when the flap fell off. |

Fred's have been known for loosing tires over the years. Dover AFB had a FRED loose a Tire on take-off and it went thru the roof and it landed in a house's living room between the Guys chair and the TV and he died of a Heart Attack. That was ruled Material Failure If I remember the tire rim failed So MAC has a list of \"FREDS\" loosing their Tires, and stuff falling out of the Wheel Wells. Their a SOB to change, I was so Damn Glad to be a Trash Hauler Worker. Goose |
