Yes it could be target pracitce. But I would rather fly a Su-30MKK then a F/A-18F.

Since the Super Hornet carries AMRAAM and AIM-9X, I'll ride that pony thanks.

Well the Su-30MKK carries the R-77 (AA-12) and R-73 (AA-11) so I think I'll pick it. I like that range, payload, and agilty. I do think the USA would kick Chinas ass, just not the F/A-18E/F.

agility wont do much against 9X, and AMRAAM out fights AMRAAMSKI, so unless it's down to ramming tactics, I'll still stick with Hornet, super or otherwise.

Its all about situational awareness.......Untill we lose that edge, its our fight to chose. The Chinese, and India seem to be departing somewhat from the old Soviet ground control radar doctrine, but the aircraft designs they are using were built with that concept in mind, and untill they depart from that completely, NATO, and Western air forces will have the drop. So when it comes down to it, the fight won't merge unless we allow it to. And when you factor such advantages as stealth, EW jamming, and AWACs, not to mention AEGIS and our extensive pilot training alone, the aircraft capability's itself are almost secondary, when the proper tatics are used.

If your not having fun, your not doing it right!

hey chad I dont know much about ship fitts, do USN surface ships have some sort of barrage or other forms of aircraft jamming systems or is that left to airborn assets? I know they have deployable decoys.

Well the PLAAF is lacking in power projection ability. The only planes which can try and project power are the Su-27SK, Su-30MKK, Su-30MKK-2 and possibly a handful of H-6D/I with the J-10 soon going to be part of that list. The rest of the planes are not ready for a fight in modern warfare with the J-7s and J-8s lakcing modern radars/BVR and having poor range. The rest of the H-6 bombers should not even be thought of as a threat seeing as they can only drop dumb bombs. The J-6s and H-5s are in a state of resevre and would be complety worthless.

Does anybody know how powerful the jammers are on fighters like the F-15/-16/-18? How far out from the target would the jamming work until radar burned through? Have there ever been plans of integrating special jammer birds, such as B-52's or EA-6's? Or maybe modified fighters carrying just jammers and one or two AMRAAMs for self-defense?

ranges are ALL classified, probobly somewhat weather dependant and constantly changing with each software mod to the jammer. The B-52 HAS been proposed as a heavy jammer because of all the equipment it could carry, but it looks like they will go to an "all sevice" version of the F/A-18G Growler, like they have done with the EA-6B Prowler, sending them wherever they are needed wheather it's AF or Navy duty that week.
