I'm currently in my second year of college, and I'm planning on starting on my civilian pilot's license soon. I'm finally at a point in my life where I can realize my interest in flying. I've been considering serving my country after college and, because of my interest in aviation, would seek to be a pilot in the Airforce. I'm not 100% sure what aircraft I'd want to fly...but I do have a special fascination for the A-10. I've always thought the A-10 to be a hell of an aircraft...it's just so tough: Flying tank? You bet!!! Anyway, if anyone out there has the info, I'd like to know: Is it very difficult to become an A-10 pilot?...I know that there are only a few hundred active aircraft...do they look for anything particular in prospective A-10 pilots? More info. please from anyone with the knowledge!!! Thanks!

Look through some of the other threads. This is a very common question, and a lot of our pilots here have excellent answers to give..

Anyone think it's time for a "So you wanna be a pilot?" FAQ of sorts? It would be quicker for those of you with the answers, and those that are looking into flying...

Start with this thread:

http://forum.a-10.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2963

I'm about half way through UPT (pilot training) right now, so I can answer many of your pertinent pilot training questions, but the AD guys can tell you more about what flying the A-10 is like, or flying in the operational AF in general. My email is in my profile, feel free to email me any questions you might have.
