Also, I remember Jimmy Ard telling about the day the war started, and he launched out Lt. Marks. Those that remember Lt. Marks know he was/is a "slight" individual. Not very tall, nor very heavy. Was a light, skinny, young-looking fellow.
Anyway, Jimmy Ard said when Lt. Marks came out to the airplane that day, he was quite naturally nervous about what was about to happen. I think Jimmy quoted him as saying, "I don't know, chief, I'm kind of worried about all this", or words to that effect.
Then, weeks later, after he'd flown many combat sorties, and possibly after the one where he and "Fish" killed 23 tanks between them, he was recovered after a mission. The chief asked him how it went. "It was great! I shot x tanks, x APCs, and I didn't have to kill one truck!"
Also, "Fish" and "Karl" received new nicknames during the war, especially after the day they killed 23 tanks. "Fish" was Captain Maim, and "Karl" was "Lt. Maim". Does anyone remember who "Col. Maim" was? <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
