I read this the other day elsewhere.

My answer?

Shoot that bastard in the balls and watch him writhe in pain till the cops show up.

Of course it won't be me that calls them....

Long distance- The next best thing to being there.

Two quick center mass (stops the advance and destroys his ability to atack) and one well aimed kill shot to the head .......... best way to defeat body armor or drug induced Superman delusions. My (1973 era) Colt Combat Commander (HS Grad Present) only holds seven in the magazine and one in the breech .............. but hell if ya can’t kill em with eight shots .......... ya shoulda stayed home. I would reccomend Wilson's 8rd mags to both of you.

Pricey, but worth it.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve used DEVIL Clips in the past, an eight round mag, but the spring fails after about 1000 or so rounds. I shoot PPSC and IPPSC competition and a feeding failure is death just like on the street. I’d rather carry several extra seven round Colt or Colt copy after market stainless steel mags. But like Sniper, I’d much rather do it with my “reach out and tough someone” weapon. A heavy barreled, glass bedded Ruger M77 in 338 Win Mag. I’ve used several scopes and am still looking for the one I like best. But if it walks, swims, crawls or flies and is within 1100 meters it’s mine. That 250 grain Spitzer Boat tail moving at 2700 fps is a beautiful thing. JKA

Oh ya ...........lets talk long guns, love the subject and love shooting them even more. Yawl come on down and visit a spell. We’ll grill up some T-bones, boil some corn on the cob, and shoot several thousand rounds off my back porch into the target butt I’ve got across the pond. When our arms are too sore to pull the trigger any more we’ll sit on that same porch, eat them steaks and drink Jack Daniels (it helps with the headache) till the sun goes down and the skeeters run us off. Oh ya if it don’t bloody your nose and make your ears ring it wasn’t worth pulling the trigger……JKA

Where you live Old Bear?

I might just take you up on that offer.

On the topic of long guns my favorite will always be the M-21, but the M-82 is in a whole different class.

There is something that is just wildy therapeudic about blowing up boulders with a rifle. <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>

All you guys sound like you got some REALLY nice pieces.

Old Bear, i am a big fan of Bausch and Lomb, i mounted a 6x24x50 on my M-21, with the money coming out of my own pocket and i could not believe the difference it made over the old ART IV.

It cost me more than a whole month's salary at the time though.

Long distance- The next best thing to being there.

Pelvis shot...nice, big, bone mass for the bullet to transfer its energy to, and hopefully spin the perp around knocking him off balance...Besides, you should SEE their expressions when you drop the barrel to their groin area...

A sucking chest wound is life's way of telling you to slow down...

*I* was always taught that when working with a semi-automatic in such a situation, it is best to to start out aiming for the right hip, and allow your weapon to move up and to your right, so as to come across the gut and the chest. This provides the most stopping power, because it includes the propertoes of energy transfer through dense mass (bone) as well as coming across nerve centers and lethal areas...

You mean full auto right Raven?

All joking aside follow Old Bear's prescribed method above.

Full auto is a waste of ammo.

Sniper:
No, I meant semi...a full auto, you just spray them. I was talking about squeezing 3-5 shots out.

No, for an M-16 with a 300M military zero, firing semi-auto you aim at the upper-belly at 25 meters. This will result in a center mass hit.

At 50-100 meters you aim dead center mass.

At 150-200 meters you aim at the neck. Again, this results in a chest shot.

At 250-300 meters aim for the forehead= Chest shot.

You should never have to deliberately allow for deflection unless the target is moving at a high obliqueity to your position or there are significant winds present.

You always want to hit the center of the chest with your first two-rounds.

Do not aim low and to the left.

With a pistol you can actually fire the first round as you track up throgh the groin region as your second round of the double tap will be fired as you line up at center mass.
This may allow you to score the first hit.

Long distance- The next best thing to being there.

Sniper: Thanks for the info...I was talking with a semi-automatic pistol (I guess I ignored the fcat that this thread was mostly about long guns) but you addressed that as well.
