Well Bush did it. It was about time to pull out the Constitutional Amendement, and he did. Now the Democrats are saying that they agree with him, but believe a constitutional amendment on marriage is un waranted. Bill Richardson says he is disappointed in Bush.
I am very conservative but could go along with civil unions, but marriage is a cultural, religous, and yes a legal institution. If the Democrats are going to fight this on grounds that the status quo is ok, where the state handle it, then the judges over throw the laws--I think this will clearly show how they handle many issues by playing to both sides. Even paralleling how they viewed 'containing' saddam.
Love to some other people thoughts here.
My basic thought is Kerry is screwed either way. He supports the amendment the large amounts of gays vote for nader or stay home. He does support the amendment and isolates 65% of the nations independant voters, and probably 60% of the white southern democrats, and maybe 35% of the black religious vote.
