matt,

Damn. The EMS company I work for (privately owned, but we do a lot of emergency work as well, especially ALS) does its fair share of transports from nursing homes to hospitals and vice versa. I don't think any of us could have left those people like your grandfather in good conscience. Prayers on their way.

Stay safe man, and I'll be watching for any calls of help or assistance from Louisiana.

When I was working as paramedic during hurricane George we evacutated all the nursing homes. The nursing homes bitched about the cost and have been raising their income every year in this state through the legistlature.

In the state of louisiana you are forced to go into nursing homes because over 90 cents of every medicaid dollar is spent in nursing homes. So basically the like the money not the responsibility. I run my own telemedicine start up company have been out of ems for about 7 years, but know i can help. But i need to get my family and especially my grandfather to safety but it is too late they pull this crap.

IF I could be on a plane in 10 minutes I'd be there to get your grandfather out Matt! That is pure bullshit on the nursing home's part. In fact, you should be on the phone with the State Police giving them this info. Those that have chosen to stay under their own free will can make that decsion. People who are not ambulatory or cannot make the decsion themselves should have been on the Governor/Mayor/Chief of Police's priority list of evacuees! I smell rotten King Cake in the Big Easy!!!!!

Matt, F#%$ what I just said up there. CALL THE POLICE NOW!!!!!! (504) 471-2775 is Troop B of the LSP. Give them the info, they should be VERY Interested about this!!!

have faxed the state police phone lines are busy. Get this my mother was told that nursing homes are private businesses so the special needs people could not tell them what to do or take the patients from them.

Still, even if they are a private institution those people need to be evacuated. The owners of that home need to be thrown in jail after all this. If the police don't understand that, you've got bigger problems.

Matt,

I've just seen news footage on the BBC of rising water levels but nothing too nasty just yet.

Hope the storm heads east and give you a break.

Also, the mayor was shown giving a mandatory evacuation notice.

Does this automatically make you and everybody else doing a limpet impression a felon?

Texas State guard units are on alert for deployment on this too. (which means I'm on alert) don't think we'd be deployed into LA itself but that is a possibility if both Govorners give the ok.

Most likely if deployed we'll be running security on the red cross shelters.

From what I've been hearing, Gulfport/Biloxi is trashed. Keesler AFB is about underwater and the Commander there is keepeing everyone sheltered until at least Thursday. Hopefully with NO wasn't hit as hard as Mississippi. Even though it is approx 70 miles away.

I'm officially very worried about Mattlott now, I know he is likely still "lost in the crowd" but still...

Yo everyone alive but a close one. Just getting out of a hospital in san antonio for cellutitis of the feet. Where to begin lost the roof, had to wear a gun to prevent looters, lost my business, and had to swim out by the projects at night while they shot randomly in the air this was monday and tuesday.

When I arrived at the dome found dome covered in urine and feces. no medical supplies to treat the cuts on my diabetic feet. <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> By Wensday night I was halling patients out of the crowd to the national guard who no longer would go and get sick or dying patients. Baby's and adults were daying all around. On thurday had to break into ems unit to get supplies to save a man. When I tried to get him medivaced out was told to brin him back into crowd to die by female colonel who was doing military triage. On Thursday I and a civilian doctor took over the fema clinic that was abandoned to treat patients. As went through the facility I found a man who was left for dead from a facial wound 15 hours earlier. He was in shock and was salvagable.

All in all think I was able to impact the care of 25-60 patients for the better. However, in the process my feet became severely infected and this is why I have been out of touch.

This should not have happened in America babies dying for lack of water etc. Will give full insight later. JUST being discharged from hospital alive, after serious iv antibiotics.

Time to declare war on FEMA and incompentance in government. As I am being processed out in San Antonio FEMA has not one computer laptop or desktop to process claims. Additionally, no voucher are available for transportation to my wife and baby. Better yet the $2000 debit card announced on the TV news does not exist. SO you will see me when I can find computer access, time to rebuild a business and life.

Thanks for the concern guys.

We'll definately have to raise you a toast after you ignored all the dangerous shit and your own injuries/declining health to help people worse off than you were when so many in & working with FEMA didn't seem to give two shits about the people down south.

Matt! So good to hear back from you man, and glad to hear that you are (comparitively) doing just fine.

Never got the call to go anywhere near the Gulf Coast, so I've been going nuts the past week or so. Fortunately, Angel Flight Southeast has taken me and some other pilots on board and we will be getting involved very soon. Some of our pilots and aircraft have already been to the area with supplies and personnel.

Everyone in the emergency service world is begging to go down there and help out...It's just that it seems very few have actually been called or given permission to do so.

Again, though...it's damned good to hear from you, and glad you're doing OK. Nice job.

Soooo..... WT '06 near Matt so we can hoist a toast to our very own hero!?

It's good to hear from you. Even my family was wondering how you were doing. Hopefully ALL of your family is doing alright.

Seriously, glad to hear you're alright Matt. If there's anything that we can do, let us know. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet (now that they're healing... har har) in no time. I'll continue praying for you and everyone else's safe and expeditious recovery from this tragedy.

So the question is, when do the lies stop and when does the truth start to come out? Half the crap on television is apparently bogus, and the same for the internet stories... this is the second eyewitness account (the other being from what Stinger's told me is going on in Dallas currently) that goes to contradict what the media would lead everyone to believe (go figure).

This pisses me off.
