A young southern astroturf Dome team with a young headcoach in a title game in January outside on grass in the cold....hmmmm.

They've certainly got a better chance than the Vikings did(who had no chance) because of their defense, but it won't be easy.

The Vikings have a much better offense than the Falcons, so to me the key matchup becomes the Atlanta D vs the Eagles O.

Prediction: Eagles 20, Falcons 9.

As far as the AFC, after the Pats shut down the Colts yesterday, there's no way i can pick against them.

Prediction: Pats 21, Steelers 16.

And here's something to cheer my favorite Vikings fan:

1) That's Marcus Robinson, not Moss.

2) Nice to know that the picture is one of a Philly defender getting everything but the textbook definition of 'facemasking' in on that tackle. If his fingers were any closer to Robinson's face he'd be given a degree in dentistry.

I'm just ready for the firings to begin (starting with Tice), and for whoever comes in next season (oh PLEASE don't let it be Parcells) to start beating some Minnesota ass around the locker room. Even as a fan I'm tired of Moss' attitude, regardless of what he brings to the field (I did enjoy when he helped the downed cameraman in the endzone after a missed TD throw, then even bent down to get the guy's hat), and I hope that he gets a large dose of reality during the offseason.

Some severe conditioning and re-learning needs to happen on the defensive side of the football. Corey Chavous and Brian Russell go from having the league-leading tandem in interceptions last year (17) to 4 this season. Antoine Winfield is a welcome addition, but he's only one player. Claiborne and the rest of the veterans need to get a spark relit under their collective asses, and with a (hopefully) semi-decent draft this coming year to complement the D (and maybe some O-line work as well), we can get a possibly competent D-line and a healthy, hungry secondary.

And please get rid of Morten Andersen. I got so damned tired yesterday (and all season) of hearing "Well, it's a 42-yard field goal attempt, outside of Andersen's range." If you can't kick a fucking 42-yard field goal in the NFL, you need to retire or become a 3rd-stringer. Gary Anderson was less than a god, more than a man with his foot during his career with Minnesota, but somebody should've seen something was wrong with Morten earlier than this.

I'm frustrated, and I will be until preseason next year. It's the same sadistic routine every year, and I'm accustomed to it. Another season, another blown opportunity. Go Vikes.

(And go Falcons... )

"I did enjoy when he helped the downed cameraman in the endzone after a missed TD throw, then even bent down to get the guy's hat"

I saw that too. That was a class act.

The missed fake FG was not his fault, it was the coaching staff's fault. At any rate, seeing as how the rest of the game went, i am not particularly inclined to think it would've worked anyway even if the Vikes hadn't had 12 men on the field forcing Moss off.

I didn't really see Moss do anything 'bad' yesterday, he just got controlled by a superior team defensive effort.

The same was true for Culpepper, he did not have too bad a day considering the heavy pass rush he was under from the start. Right from the very beginning of the game with J.Johnson's defenders darting in and out of the line of scrimmage before the snap you could see Culpepper was apprehensive and confused.

Kearse, Trotter, Dawkins and Co. did quite a job controlling Culpepper. He is a very dangerous player, but with J.Johnson's scheme when you have star quality D players you can turn them into weapons.

Yesterday it was all the Eagles pro-bowl players that made the plays.

I. Reese with the beautiful circus interception in the 3d.

L.Sheppard tipping a beautiful Culpepper deep bomb away from a wide open reciever down the sideline in the third quarter.

B.Dawkins with the big sack and forced fumble at the end of the 3d quarter to force the 4th and 22.

M.Lewis batting down the desperation jump ball to Moss in the endzone on the next play, the play that ended all doubt whatsoever about the outcome.

Pass rusher J.Kearse being in on all 3 Eagles sacks, lining up all over the Eagles front 7, and just wreaking general havoc on the Vikes offensive scheme all day long.

And of cours, 3 time All Pro MLB J.Trotter who made the destruction of the Vikings line of scrimmage his personal mission all game long.

Mission accomplished Mr.Trotter.

The Vikings got yards...just like the first game...but when you get in the red zone against the Eagles DC J.Johnson unleashes the hounds.

The hounds are large, fleet of foot and many... and they are all very, very angry.

While that game mattered yesterday, the Vikings high-octane attack, and all it's offensive stars could manage only 7pts.

On the other side of the ball, the Eagles O was busy fumbling off a month's worth of rust...when they weren't scoring.

I think the Eagles only punted once in the whole game.

The Eagles O pretty much used the Vikings D like a pit-bull uses a chew up toy from start to finish. I imagine it could not have been very pleasant for you to watch as Westbrook and McNabb pretty much just exploded on the Vikings defense in the first half.

Looking ahead to next week, i just don't see Atlanta's unorthodox offense performing well against J.Johnson and his pack of blitzing defensive weapons. The last time the Eagles played Atlanta in the playoffs Vick was completely shut down and physically abused. And this is a MUCH better Eagles defense than the one from 2 the playoff game 2 yrs ago.

Atlanta has been shut-out this year, and they've had a 56pt bomb dropped on them by KC, a game where the only score they managed was an A.Rossum punt return TD. So in reality, the atlanta attack was shutout by a HIDEOUS KC defense.

That does not bode well for Atlanta at all, because as the Vikings just learned, the Eagles have a seriously good defense.

The Eagles have an excellent offensive line, and Westbrook seems to manage to average 5yds a carry against any team he faces, and McNabb is a flat-out stud, but they'll be facing a fast, talented Atlanta defense that is pretty good at wreaking havoc in it's own right.

That will be the key matchup.

If Owens is in this game it's an easy Eagles win, but he's not, and the Eagles previous 3 losses cannot be ignored.

On paper, the Eagles should win this game pretty handily anyway.

I think it will be around 20-6, with a late Eagles touchdown sealing an otherwise close game.

I don't think anyone is beating the Patriots this year though, TO or no TO.

Just looking at the early matchups, this is going to be a hell of a game. Easily the biggest challenge each team will face this year.

Both the Eagles and the Patriots are extremely talented, complete teams, top to bottom.

Both play AS teams, both have excellent coaching, both have excellent schemes, both have excellent offense, defense, and special teams.

I have to give the nod to the Pats, because they've proven they have what it takes...twice.

But the Eagles will easily be the best of the three teams they've faced in the superbowl thus far. This is a game the Eagles can win.

NE is favored, and rightfully so, but this has the potential to be one of the great Superbowl matchups of all time.

Every superbowl should feature what are the most dominating teams of their respective conferences not just for that season...but for the whole decade.

Sadly few do...This one will.

Whoever wins(and i have to objectively state i think NE will- or at least SHOULD- probably win), will have definitely earned their crown.

Looking beyond this game...there is NOTHING to say it won't be the same two teams back there again next season, and the season after.

The Eagles are still a very young team, with it's core nucleus of players all 27years old or younger(TO and B.Dawkins excluded, who are 31). Beyond that, the Eagles annual cap figure is the envy of teams the league over. And they draft as well as anyone in the NFL.

So if the Eagles lose, i won't be that broke up about it.

I expect them to be there again...

The Falcons proved one thing last night...a one dimension team can't win a divisions championship....stop the run, stop Atlanta...If Vick ever learns that his first instinct shouldn't be to run, but stay in the pocket & through they may be dangerous....they also need a good #1 receiver, Price is a good #2 guy, which he proved multiple season when he was still with my Buffalo Bills....

I'm pulling for the Eagles all the way...I hate New England....

I got to give it up to Philly...

Great season, its a push to say who will win, however Brady is the iceman, arguably comparable to Joe Montana in big games; without the supporting cast that Joe had, not that Corey Dillon (a U of Washington alumn) is chopped liver...

Looking foward to a great game, Carolina hung tough last year and Philly has a much more complete team than the Panthers, though New England has improved as well....

I've figured out why they call NE a 'team without stars'.

It's because when you have 22 starters that all play like stars, no one stands out...

Deion Branch is the one that really scares me though. That boy has some jets.

i have been waiting for this game for years. i live in mass and am a HUGE pats fan, but i have also been an eagles fan for years.

what do you guys think about TO coming back. could go eitther way, he could be so pumped to play that he busts out a great game, or he could just be in denial of his bum ankle.
also...it is hard to deny Mr. Perfect Tom Brady, he is the picture of history in the making, all he has to do is be smarter than andy reid, who just tied vince lombardi for his 9-1 record in the playoffs.

god..so much ass kicking football so little time, but after all is said and done...go pats!!!

It should be a great game. There is no question that the Eagles and Pats are the two most dominant football teams of the decade in their respective conferences.

Glad he's coming back, from what i have seen/read he is pumped and ready to go.

The eagles are great, they have had an amazing year.....my gut feeling however is that the Pats are going to win.

One can always hope though...

No complaints about how the Superbowl shaped up to be, but a "Pennsylvania Civil War" mght of been fun, and Pittsburgh vs. Philly would only have been second best to splattering a creme puff on the back of Pittsburghs golden child, Kurt Angle's big bald head.

I heard Bryan Cox (who suffered a similar injury) interviewed on ESPN Radio today and he said that he thought there was no way he'd be back. No offense to anyone here, but I just don't think Philly stands a chance, T.O. or no T.O. Since I said that I suppose it boosts Philly's odds...

Philly faced two dynamic offenses in the postseason, one a powerful passing team with a crappy defense, and one the #1 rushing team in the NFL with an excellent defense.

Just like the Pats did.

Sure the Pats shutdown Manning and held that offense to 3 points, but the Eagles shut down the very potent Vikings attack and held them to 7 points while there was any doubt whatsoever about the outcome too.

Yep, the Pats laid the stick to the Steelers, and shut down their running attack, but it was a result of a +4 turnover margin and two big plays to Deoin Branch that led to the 41points. Similarly, the Eagles shut down the Atlanta running attack to the tune of 99 total rushing yards(26 by vick- who lost 33 yards on sacks and as a result was -7 net yards for the game), and still laid 27 points on an excellent Atlanta defense with only a +1 turnover margin. If the Falcons turned the ball over as many times as the Steelers did, i assure you, the Eagles would've scored at LEAST 40pts against the Falcons.

Culpepper had statistically one of the top years in the history of the NFL for a QB, and the week before the Eagles played the Falcons they'd lit the Rams up for over 50pts.

Yet the Eagles shut down both of those teams.

The Pats and the Eagles road to the Superbowl has been very similar in the types of teams they've faced.

In the Eagles two playoff games the Eagles surrendered a grand total of 17 points while the games mattered, while scoring 54 points themselves.

Thru the first 14 games of the season(the games the Eagles starters played in), the Eagles surrendered the fewest points in the NFL, and led the league in sacks, and red zone defense. Since 2000 the Eagles have surrendered the fewest points in the NFL, and lead the league in Redzone defense. Since 2000 the Eagles are the winningest team in the NFL...the Pats are 2d.

The Eagles may very well lose, but they're not going to get 'killed', their defense is just way too good...hence the line being only 6 points.

The reason the Pats crushed the Steelers is because of 4 Pitt turnovers. Pitt was able to move the ball on the Pats, they just killed themselves with crucial mistakes.

Donovon McNabb on the other hand, has the 2d LOWEST interception % in the NFL history.

NE SHOULD win, but it will be a good game. Barring multiple turnovers from either team, there will be no blowout.

If either team has a +3 turnover margin they'll kill the other team, regardless of which side gets the turnover bug. But i doubt you'll see even 3 turnovers for the 2 teams combined. Both these teams protect the football very well.

And of course it won't be a Superbowl without good commercials. And can anyone guess what this years halftime show will be like? I'm guessing conservative is the word after last years uproar.

According to local sports talk show host Howard Eskin, TO practiced for reid today, and was able to cut, change directions, stop, accelerate, and run, all at near his normal level.

Eskin described him as being "At 95%".

Owens will play in the superbowl, and will be far more than a decoy.

AFC is by far the stronger division this year winning 44 0f the 64 inter conference games this year. Philly is hands down the best the NFC has to offer, and I don't think anybody can argue that NE was tops in the AFC. Pitt had a great year, but they also had the advantage of playing a weaker schedule than NE.

Last time NE and Philly played was 2003, NE won 31-10, Philly made some huge improvements since then, as NE has also...

They compelling factor will be turnovers, NE was +9 Philly was +6 this year...

Super Bowls generally are blowouts, with a few exceptions of late...If the game is won by the spread, it will be the closest game either team has played this post season...Hard to call.

NE won both it's previous super bowls by field goals.

Agree that turnovers will be the difference.

The Eagles team that lost to NE last year is a much different team than this one.
