I’ve had to sit through literally dozens of site safety videos of the “Hardhats – Good, Hydrofloric Acid – Bad” school of direction (although the chicks in bikinis demonstrating fire extinguishers was pretty neat, but I digress) so I do try do to the right thing where possible.

I’ve been lifting an old floor so have lots of planks with nails sticking out of them lying about.

Construction statistics show that most injuries are of the ‘dust in eye’ or ‘trod on a upturned nail’ variety, so the dangers of these hazards are really pounded into us.

Not wanting to become another statistic I thought, “better knock those nails through” but not wanting to damage the new floor I thought “I’d better put the plank on something before hammering the nail back through”.

So I used the top of my thigh…

You can probably work the rest out yourselves, but let’s just say ramming the blunt end of a nail (and associated wood splinters) into your thigh with a 4 pound lump hammer is not good…

Hope this is the last stupid thing I do before 2006, but experience suggests it won’t be…
