You'd be a lot better off if you all thought like "Air Soldiers", especially the AF leadership.

Oh come on Snipe! If we were any more like the Army, they'd be issuing us Army Air Corps Patches!

You say that as if it's a bad thing Weasel. :)

I am sure that's what the Navy guys thought too.

Until DoD and Azibaid stuck M16s in their hands and had them start doing convoy escort duty in Baghdad.

Don't think it can't happen to you.

We had a Navy LTCDR in our group at Bagram. The worst thing we ever did was put a loaded M-4 in his hands...<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

We're all ultimately riflemen (aka soldiers).

It would be nice if more USAF and USN(and hell, even Army rear echelon) types were of proper body and mind to perform the mission adequately. ;)

One of many pluses to not being Army, is that the AF lets us carry a round in the chamber of our M-9's. I've trained some Army soldiers to the Army standard. We had to teach them to chamber a round as they drew from the holster. Talk about akward and slow. Just stupid. The whole point behind going with a DA pistol was to allow Soldiers to carry a round in the chamber of a pistol, and to give them a fighting chance of landing a round on target before getting hit.

But the Army in their infinate wisdom, (that is to say their inherent distrust of their own soldiers), still will not allow their men to carry a round chambered. As they have to chamber on the draw, they are the slowest by far I've ever trained.

Granted, the pistol is a weapon one uses to fight their way to the rifle they shouldn't have put down to begin with. However, when you need a pistol, you need it RIGHT NOW, not 5 seconds from now when you're huddled behind a wall with a bullet in your leg.

THANK GOD THE AIR FORCE IS NOT SO NARROW MINDED AND LIVING IN THE PAST! My God, we could have all been killed!

LOL, the army lets you keep your rifle chambered bro. ;)

My opinion of pistolas in combat is that i'd rather carry the equivelant weight in snackfood. :)

Point well taken though, that is definitely a stupid army policy. They probably never changed the reg from the M1911 days. When the .45 was the std issue that policy made some sense.

As for rifles, the Army and Air Force are the same. The only time you can chamber a round is when in a dangerous situation, i.e. combat zone. Other than front line, the chamber stays empty until you are coming to bear on target, and willing to shoot.

A pistol in the hand is better than nothing though. Of course, it'd be better if the pistol was something more than a 9.

A pistolgrip attatched to a rifle in the hand is the way to go.
