I'm being picked-up by the F-16s (will be working on the same crew I'm working with now) under goverment service as a WG-10. It's a pay increase and a lot more secure future. As long as I can pass the physical (no date yet), which I see no problem doing, I will be set. I start the paperwork on the 5th, no more bouncing between contractor to contractor.

I do miss working with the A-10 but I guess this old maintainer just didn't fit-in with "management" and belongs with a wrench in his hand. Strange where life can take you sometime....

So Dice-Man,from Warthog to Viper. From an ugly friend to a sneaky snake.
Can I ask where do you work? On wich base? Or is that topsecret.
Anyway, good luck with the work. The job had to be done.

You are allowed to work on'em, but the rules here still stand. No Viper pics posted unless they are wrecks.

Congrats Dice. Not only is it a lot more secure, the bennies ain't so bad either. You should, however, look into buying back your military time. It'll be pricey but when retirement number 2 rolls around, it'll be worth it..though not as much as under the old CSR system.

Congrats dude, your work will be more important now anyway since with the Falcon every launch starts off in an emergency condition: one engine running, low on fuel, and on fire ! lolol :-)

Good call Chief. Dice he is right. I know you were active duty so I am not sure you know about all the civillian technician stuff. You definetly need to buy back that time even if you need to take a home equity loan out. You have a buttload of points toward the cillian side of the house.

Good News Joe! Glad for you and the Girls!

I have to agree with the Chief, if you can swing it do it, I heard about buying your time back and it pays in the end

Thanks everyone I'm very happy about the new job. Chief, I know it's a good idea, I just don't think I can swing it but, I will look at the option closely.

Hawg166, understand...no Viper pics allowed. Boomer, good joke I told it to the crew at work and they got a big kick out it!

The guys and gals at work already know where I stand on the A-10 so they pretty much don't start debates on the A-10 V F-16 after the first couple ones we've had. One ended in a guys buying me a 12 pack of bud... he now knows that I know my stuff when it comes to the Hawg.

well no duh!! lolol
Now how many rivets does the Hawg have???
( btw we need a new nickname for the A-10 EVERYBODY knows it as the Hawg or Hog these days. And look at the Phantom, you could practically have a whole conversation just using various F-4 nicks lol )

No Sniper, no ViperPit. Working the A-10 at depot may be the last place you want to be this summer...and Spring...and Fall! Them boys are going to be putting in some long hours for the next years or so. Heck they were on 12/7's for a long time and PE hasn't even started yet!

BTW I pushed one button today and my flight control ops checks finished themselves....I like that....I like that a lot!

I hear you Chief. Dice I just wanted you to know I think a lot of you and that I thought the A-10 depot was missing out on a first rate A-10 mechanic.

I have been guilty of what the chief said many times myself.

I would never diss the Hawg with the Viper, I'm just saying as a depot "work-load" the A-10 is going to be a killer the next year V the F-16. I get all the over-time I need now and don't need to work 24/7 like I believe they (the A-10) will be doing.

Dice I just don't understand why they overlooked your A-10 experience if they have so much work. I know you say you are happy where you are at however sometimes the powers that be just make you scracth your head and go huh! If I was HR over at the A-10 depot and seen an applicant with credentials like yours I would hire you in a second.

Fender, Dice is his own worst enemy and his failure to be hired on the Hawg line has nothing to do with his technical knowledge, ability or work ethic. The Diceman never learned the 3 rules;

1. When things aren't going as everyone thought they would, SIT DOWN, SHUT UP AND COLOR.

2. Never, EVER tell those in power, regardless that he pointed out how hosed up something was, that it's turning out exactly as he predicted (also known as "I told you so").

3. Perhaps this should be number 1; Do NOT discuss shortcomings in a public forum though I see this one has finally sunk in. Nice job Dice.

Now, before anyone jumps on this and starts about the incompetence of Civil Service management, I've been on every side of the issue..blue suiter/end user, mid level management and contractor. For the most part, everyone I've dealt with has been first rate, they're just trying to do an almost impossible job with not enough money, not enough people and low on the priority list.
