Did anyone else happen to see this one?
I am sure there are more than a few families just a little upset about this one!

But then again we all know how record keeping is in the military!

Army asks dead to sign up for another hitch

WASHINGTON (AP) --

The Army said Friday it would apologize to the families of about 275
officers killed or wounded in action who were mistakenly sent letters
urging them to return to active duty.

The letters were sent a few days after Christmas to more than 5,100
Army officers who had recently left the service.

Included were letters to about 75 officers killed in action and about
200 wounded in action.

\"Army personnel officials are contacting those officers' families now
to personally apologize for erroneously sending the letters,\" the Army
said in a brief news release issued Friday night.

The Army did not say how or when the mistake was discovered.

It said the database normally used for such correspondence with former
officers had been \"thoroughly reviewed\" to remove the names of wounded
or dead soldiers.

\"But an earlier list was used inadvertently for the December
mailings,\" the Army statement said, adding that the Army is
apologizing to those officers and families affected and \"regrets any
confusion.\"

Wow, I knew retention was low in the Army [lol]

But seriously this kind of screw up happens all the time, just ask SgtGoose who was reported as, well for a lack of better words, Dead.

So, I'm sure someone (a low ranking PVT) will be getting their ass chewed over this one. Then the Army will report that the individual has been counseled and the whole issue will be brushed under the carpet.

I can see the letter now:

\"We know you've made the ultimate sacrifice for your country...

But we think you can give more!\"

During the first 2 yrs of the war, the Army was calling up the \"IRR\" and called-up over 100 Disabled veterans that were discharged because of their disability.
Most were in the 80-100% disability ranger and even though the VA had them listed as that, the Army said \"We'll see fpr ourself when you report.\"
One Capt who lost both legs in a Helo crash was on the News anout it.

It was bad enough that Congress past a bill and the President signed it that if \"You are called back to duty and have a VA disability rating, you still get your disability pay on top of your Active pay\" needless to say all these folks reported and were sent home after buying uniforms,etc... to goto to medical exams and such.
But if your 40% or less and in a skill level they need and you can hack training they kept them. Before they Booted them out.

So thats pretty bad.
