Been there done that.....the more mentos you can get into the bottle the higher the explosion gets!

I wonder what happens if you screw the cap on, and let the pressure build. Will it get high enough to burst? |

We used to make small explosives to use during exercises by cutting up the heating insert from an MRE into tiny bits. Put them in an empty plastic soda bottle, then pour in some water, seal the lid and toss it as far as you can. Nice little pop and the water goes everywhere. That was before we heard about the Mentos and Coke. I can only imagine what the guys are doing with that knowledge.

You don't have enough time, from the second that mentos hits the diet coke it starts to react. You have about 1 1/2 seconds before it makes a fountain. Yeah yeah i know what you are thinking... i have way to much free time on my hands...lol actually i don't i just have strange friends!!

There are ways to work around that. I'd experiment some, but I'm in the middle of the city. I don't think people would take kindly to exploding Coke bottles in the neighborhood. My thought was to put a paperclip through the Mentos, and then hold that on the cap with a magnet. This would let you screw the cap on without the Mentos getting wet. Screw it on, then remove the magnet and run. |

Do like the guy in the video did with the thread, but just lay the bottle on its side. Then run like hell in case the cap fails and it takes off! |
