It's summertime. Five days of working this week and than 3 weeks free of work. I go to the beach.

This year brings Kid Rock the ultimate summer feeling with his song.

Are here more people getting vacation/holiday and going somewhere?

I wish I could say so, but I already had my vacation for the year. My wife and I had our honeymoon on Maui this past spring. After that I am already looking at how to save the leave and the money to go back within the next year or so! I may be seeing a couple good TDYs across the US over the next year though, so we will see...maybe something nice will come.

I had my summer vacation in Feb/March. I took 30 days of leave and it was awesome. I would have preferred to take it in the summer, but at the time we were scheduled to deploy then.

I plan on taking my next leave in July 2009, 30 days again.

While I do get vacation time, we're discouraged from using it if you're supervising an active site..of course if you're not at an active site you're laid off and therefore have no need for vacation time. Some would call that circular logic.

So, in answer to your question Dutchy, no, I've not made any vacation plans.

Is that just because you kinda look like him snipe?

As for vacations, i have not had a full week off in probably a few years. Its difficult with my job to get time off anymore. If all goes as planned i'll be going to Walt Disney World in October with my boyfriend (it would be our 1st vacation together in the 2+ years :) )

aka, Catch 22.

What is this \"vacation\" of which you all speak? I once scheduled 2 weeks off. It was supposed to start 12 Sept, 2001. For some reason it never happened. [salute] All my use or lose has been nickle and dimed a day at a time ever since.

With my wife living and working in Wyoming, every day's a vacation! :D

Seriously though, we tend to take lots of long weekends and short little vacations. Over the 4rth, we spent a day on the North Platte River in my canoe. Great weather, the river was up and running fast and there were lots of little side channels to explore. One of these side channels put us into a 3 mile run of class 2 and 3 rapids, under 3 low bridges and almost over a low-head dam. Luckily, I heard the roar of the water over the dam and managed to dodge that bullet. The rapids were a total blast though. 8) What a rush!!!!

Not so much Mark. I still pick up my guitar every now and then, but I've move away from the bluegrass and am now a dye'd in the wool Parrot Head.

Funny you should bring up bluegrass. On another site, I wrote up my adventure on the North Platte and titled it, \"Down the River Without a Banjo.\"

I also find escape from day to day BS out in my garage/woodworking shop. Just turned some pen and pencil sets for my Nice and Nephew who'd just graduated HS. Its fun to do, and impresses the hell out of them.

How about you, how do you cope with life day to day?

My vaca this year will be around the end of August and into September. Planning on summitting Mt Adams (12,000+ ft) August 31st. Weather (and 50 other variables) permitting. [bounce]

I am back from 3 weeks vacation. First to an island in the north of the Netherlands, than to Czech Republic and back to the island.
It was beach, sun and a lot of fun.

I'm heading to Hawgsmoke for my vacation, heading to Oz first to see the last show at the F-111 base, onto Hawaii for a week and arrive in Kansas for the week. the week after is unknown so far.

Doesn't feel like a holiday at the moment, a lot of hassle trying to arrange things, just hope the weather is nice

Booked my flights with Qantas,
