Recently (location & circumstances omitted for security reasons) my son was "at work", away from his normal location, when there was a "commotion" nearby. He stopped what he was doing in time to turn and deliver his best salute to the Commander-in-Chief as he walked through. ("Dad, he was ten feet from me.") So far he has seen a great deal of Great Britian, Spain, and (probably) every pub in between. He has been up-close and personal with most of the airplanes I raised him to recognize on sight, oh, "thank you" to those 2 unknown Hog drivers for the "show". He is learning and maturing, just like thousands of other young men do. But this is my son. He was very difficult to raise. Age 14 to 17 was a living Hell. His mother and I really feared that he would literally not live to make 18. He turned 19 a few days ago. An Airman, just doing his job, seeing the world, and saluting the President. The Air Force knows how to take scared kids and turn them into grown-ups. The Air Force was my sons last chance, and they saved him. So, if anyone ever says the Military is a waste of money, and is just about killing, I have an answer (AFTER I kick the sh#t out of them): No, the Air Force saved my sons life and made a man out of him. For me, that is worth every penny I will pay in taxes for the rest of my life. God Bless all the members of the USAF. May God particularly bless the sargents, who after all, are the only ones who really know what is going on. "The First Rule in a Gunfight: Have a gun. If you violate this rule, no other rules apply" Jeff Cooper |

I can only echo BR's words "Well Said" <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> I think the same is true for all the forces. A best mate from school days was a one man Brat Pack. He didn't know when to keep his fists by his side and knew the inside of every police station in the area. He joined the 17/21st Lancers and went to play in some big steel boxes. They really straightened him out. Now he's a proud and good father, who loves his family and his country and will fight for our freedom against those who threaten us... Thanks to all those who serve... "A .44 magnum beats 4 Aces everytime..." |

I hope that if I join I will not become part of the status-quo. Any whoo, Godspeed to you and your son. |
