House Republicans announced a $22 billion plan last week to partially overturn a 19th-century policy depriving disabled veterans of some retirement pay. The plan is to be phased in over 10 years and would extend dual benefits (disability benefits and full military retirement pay) for the first time to some veterans whose disabilities are not combat-related. The measure is now part of the fiscal 2004 defense authorization bill, although it could shift to different legislation if the defense measure is stalled by other disputes. http://www.military.com/MilitaryReport/ ... ITS REALLY ABOUT *&^%^%^%^&%%$$^%$! TIME THIS CAME ABOUT!!! THE PROBLEM IS ALOT OF THESE FOLKS WILL DIE BEFORE THEY SEE A DIME,OR LIVES RUINED BY OVERBUNDEN OF MEDICAL COST AND STRESS! THE BIG VET ORGS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR THIS FOR YEARS,BUT IT ALWAYS CAME UP SHORT OR SCREWED ANOTHER GROUP OF VETS. I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN THE PRES. SIGNS IT THEN WE NEED A VA HEALTH BUDGET! THAT THE FUNDING CANT BE TAKEN AWAY AT A WHIM TO PAY FOR OTHER PROJECTS. THIS YEARS BUDGET WAS 1.8 BILLION LESS THEN IT NEEDED FOR TODAYS VETS,NOT INCLUDING THE NEW ONES. VA BUDGET HAS BEEN GETTING SLASHED EVERYYEAR AND NOT KEEPING UP WITH DEMAND OR VETS THAT NEED HELP. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED " THE COST OF THE WAR ON FREEDOM,NOT HOW TO PAY FOR THE WAR ON FREEDOM"!
