THey should not have switched over to the berets. I think The reasoning behind this is that most countries in the world now use berets, but we should follow their lead, they should follow ours. THe berets represent a very special group of people, If you see someone wearing a beret you shouldn't have to think about what color it is or look on the flash, you should be able to see a beret and reconize the person as someone who worked exceptionally hard, weather a ranger or a green beret or whatever. Also it is very hard to wear a beret, the prep time takes forever, you need two hand to put on you head, then if you don't cut you hard every week it doesn't fit right. don't get me wrong, I love my beret, but everytime I put it on I worry that I'm wearing it wrong and disrespecting the people who really diserve to wear it. I've seen many pictures of people who wear the beret wrong and it buggs me. At NBB some of the cadet didn't bother to wear their beret the whole time, it was just to much of a hassel when you can just throw on a BDU cap and be done. I'm proud to wear mine to squadron meetings, because I'm the only cadet in the group to have a beret. I know I'm just a dumb CAP cadet, but still in CAP, NBB is the hardest encampment to get into. Even after you get in a get you beret, your not allowed to wear it! berets should be left to only the best, not to everyone, and just the color or the flash is not enough of a distinction to make it worth wild. If CAP ever went to everyone wearing berets I would throw mine out and never wear one again.
