I've thought a bit this weekend. Mostly this morning. I went browsing another LiveJournal, thought perhaps to find another friend. It was very intersting, another good artist. I might add him yet, he's a very good artist. We'll see. As with everything in my life, my career options and thoughts on what to do with my life. At first, space was the main goal. Come in, get a degree, go on my mission, get a commission, and go space. That's changed a bit. The idea of a combat job appeals as well. It always did, but is much stronger now. It would be nice if I could combine the two, but oh well. I can retire in twenty years, and still have time to try for space on the commercial market. Hopefully by then the people working on such things will have pulled their heads out of their arses and a vacation for me and a lucky lady would be practical. I'll fly. So high I can touch the sky with my fingers. But it will be in a fighter or transport rather than a space shuttle. There's a quote, it's been refered as anonymous, and to George Orwell. Who cares who said it, it fits. "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us." I ma ynot be the roughest, but I stand there, and will eventually stand farther up front. I have a strange consience. It is soley the way I was brought up that allows me to function in society. I would have very little trouble doing violence on those that I feel deserve it, and believe me, there are many out there that benefit from the civility that was put in me from an early age. I seek to flesh out the abilities however. Martial arts, weapons skills. If you come to my house(when I get a house), you will sleep safely in your bed, knowing that not far away is the ability to defend yourself. While I may not be the best of fighters, I will know enough to endow that knowledge on those that seek it. Knowledge that no law can take away. Should that be attempted, the rough men will turn on them, and restore what was originally intended: Liberty. And now to leave you scratching your heads over my tangled thoughts, with http://www.something.com/ "Some pup" Nickname by Fenderstrat72 |

Gifted, there is no better job than flying. For a long time I wanted to be an astronaut, then a fighter pilot. Now I am a tanker pilot, and I don’t know if I would trade it for either of the first two, given the chance. I love what I do, and I love serving in the military. My sister used to have a little frame on her wall that said “Reach for the moon, because even if you miss you’ll fall among the stars.” I thought it was really stupid at the time, but now I sort of understand. Halfway through pilot training I had no idea what I wanted or where I was going, but I kept moving and didn’t give up and walk away, and now I am very happy for that. And there’s an equally random reply to your musings. |

I have been around engineering of single seaters for a long time and I thought that was the tops. Recently I was walking out to the flight line and went through the building they use to "dry dock" C-5s. (Four of them can fit in simultaneously) When I looked up at the cab area the windows looked so relatively small, I had the thought that it really might be the ultimate to fly one of those things. It must be like being the captain of a ship that can go anywhere in the world, carrying anything, the ultimate RV. They are putting glass cockpits in them now and will re-engine them soon, so hopefully the reliabilty will be restored. They'll be trash haulin' to exotic ports of call (and third world cesspools) for another 30 years. Can you picture yourself walking the quarterdeck of a C-5, barking orders, putting down a mutiny or two, flogging and keel hauling the disrespectful...Uh-oh, Somebody stop me. C-5s would be a lot cooler if they had warp drive and Phasers, heheeheh. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction" Ronald Reagan |

Actually, c-5s don't go to the cesspool locations as much as you'd think. They are so large and need such special equipment they can only land at the larger airfields, which are usually found in more populated areas. And they break and get stuck ALL the time, but with a flight crew of 10 you are certainly your own walking party! As large as they are, I hear they are still more maneuverable than a KC-135. And their cockpits are huge. You can walk comfortably to the side of copilot or pilots seat, between the seat and the throttle quadrant. Throw some decent engines and a nicer display on those babies, and they will be the real Gucci boys! |
