Former president Bill Clinton defends his embattled national security advisor as a man who "always got things right," even if his desk was a mess.

"We were all laughing about it," Clinton said about the investigation into Sandy Berger for taking classified terrorism documents from the National Archives. "People who don't know him might find it hard to believe. But ... all of us who've been in his office have always found him buried beneath papers."

DRUDGE has learned: In an interview set for publication Wednesday in the DENVER POST, Clinton questions the timing of the Berger flap less than a week before the Democratic National Convention and two days before a presidential commission is slated to release its final report on the Bush administration's handling of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Clinton tells the POST he has known about the federal probe of Berger's actions for several months, calling the news a "non-story."

"I wish I knew who leaked it. It's interesting timing," he added.

"I feel terrible for Sandy. But I just believe his explanation because I know how much he cared about this ... terrorism business," Clinton said, describing his former security advisor as a "workaholic" who has "always been up to his ears in papers."

Rather obvious the situation was known by Klinton, <i>et.al.</i>, by the way he phrased it..."leaked". Almost an admission it was something they wanted to keep buried.

You know, the thing that bothers me here is that the American public will probably buy off on the thought that mishandling classified documents is part of a "bad day." Like losing your keys, forgetting the milk, or accidentally removing classified documents and the notes you took about them. WTF was he doing taking notes about class docs in the first place? That wasn't a mistake, or a moment of thoughtlessness. That guy has NO RESPECT for the importance of the term CLASSIFIED. His clearance should be revoked yesterday, and he should never reach an authority higher than cash register operator ever again.

I dont take work home. I consider that a sacrilage, and interference into my personal life.

Secondly. If he has a clearance for this subject data, then he would also have a Secure materials custodian that works for him and his staff, which means they have methods of delivery and obviously a vault system in place to take care of the control of said materials.

Stuffing shit in your socks clearly advertises intent and incrimination for what he was doing. He was lazy, and didnt want to follow the process.

Its not like this data was held from him, he had the accessability to it.

What raises the flag to me, is that he was taking the original source data....and apparently some of it means it hasnt been returned.

Sounds like the Homo was sanitizing and removing evidence of the clinton administrations activities.

I'm not laughing. This guy is a disgrace. There is no explaination possible for this behavior that is not criminal. If the Klintonistas want to make light of it, then consider what it means. There were no state secrets during the previous administration, only political ones. Foreign interests with ill will towards us got full access to anything they wanted. The Klinton gang didn't consider security important unless it protected their personal asses. I don't want to believe it, but it looks like it's true. Sonny Barger (I mean Sandy Berger) should get jail time but here is what will happen: The justice department will not press for prosecution because it might become an election issue. (That Brown Shirt John Ashcroft is abusing his power again. Didn't we tell you this would happen with the Patriot Act. Those right wing extremists will probably get Ken Starr to try the case. Those Clinton haters just won't let it go. etc.). Everyone with a current security clearance will be re-indoctrinated and threatened with fines and imprisonment for the exact behavior Berger exhibited. We all know they would actually throw the book at us too. We've seen it. We also know that if you are politically powerfull the rules don't apply to you. Berger knows he has a Get Out of Jail Free card. This case will re-establish that horrible reality. I can't think about it. I want to puke.

Having classified documents(even those you are cleared to actually see) in a non-controlled area without expressed written permission(which isn't even done for some eyes-only documents. They NEVER leave the secured sites) is a felony 1 offense, and a courts-martialable offense under the UCMJ.

....big question...what exactly is still missing and what are it's implications to national security. Sorry, can't risk it, burn down his house, car, boat, and socks.
