"Not made it on here yet, but the new President of the EC set out his "cabinet" the other day. He has to have one commissioner from each country that belongs to the EU as opposed to two from the old structure.

The results are fascinating. The UK got the plum post of Trade comissioner, and put Peter Mandleson in there. Germany was given an economic post and the New Europe states got a lot of foreign / security portfolios. France got err Transport!!!

This is very significant. For the 2nd power in Europe to be delibarately assigned a very insignificant post shows clearly the direction the new President will take. He is shaping up to be "new europe" and pro USA in his speeches. Apparently France is aghast at the humiliation - oh happy days"
