Well it's almost that time again fellas...FOOTBALL!

Today, the Eagles added what might be the final piece to their superbowl puzzle- 4 time pro bowl pass-rushing DE extraordinaire Hugh Douglass. Of course the other DE is Jevon Kearse- probably the best pass rusher in the NFL today. Add in Jerimiah Trotter, Dhani Jones, and Jim Jones blitzing schemes, and the Eagles look to have a devastating pass rushing defense.

On the other side of the ball the addition of Terrell Owens gives the Eagles and superstar Donovan McNabb the one thing they lacked- a game breaking wide reciever.

Good luck NFC...you're gonna need it. :)

Maybe you convince yourself that the Eagles will be alright this year, but come week two my Vikings are going to show they and the NFC that they are the team to be reckoned with.

Thanks, Snipe. I've been a fan since I can remember and my Dad's had season tickets for years. Bernie Kosar is still my favorite player of all time. What a class act. When the Browns left for (spit!) Baltimore in '95 I thought my dad was going to commit suicide.

That being said, The Eagles look awfully stinkin' good on paper. I'd actually love to see someone like them upset the apple cart. I'm anxious to see how the Browns do with a rebuilt west coast offense. Garcia, Winslow, Green, Suggs, Morgan. I'm afraid their "Dawg" defense won't help them much though. I wish we had Hanford Dixon, Frank Minnifield, Felix Wright, Carl Hairston, and Eric Turner back!

ATTACK!!!!!!!

Allow me to retort. ;)

Douglass was only gone one year, and was extremely effective the last year he played here. He'll only be playing on pass downs, so should be fresh late in the game. The man is a proven pass rusher.

Kearse has been moved back to the left side, where he was utterly dominant early in his career(and he is still a young player). The Eagles are still 6 million under the cap even after signing douglass...they had the money to spend. :)

Trotter was only gone two years, and he was effective in washington. Also, he will only play run downs, so his limited mobility won't hurt the Eagles D on pass plays. Add in stud DT Corey Simon, and the Eagles will have a blistering pass rush(i will accept bets. ;)). That will cover greatly for the lack of corners.

Also, because of the new 5yd rule, star corners impact will be greatly minimized...whereas a ferocious pass-rush will be maximized. :)

The Eagles best back last year was EASILY B. Westbrook, and he's back and healthy.(Remember he was hurt for the playoffs, and the birds still made the NFC championship game for the 3d straight year).
Westbrook is a break away runner with tremendous moves. Madden always says when he sees the Eagles play that Westbrook is the most under-rated back in the NFL. Westbrook is a game breaker at HB.

D.McNabb has made 4 straight pro-bowls, is only 27 years old, and for the first time in his career has a true game breaking reciever.

Be afraid...be very afraid. ;)

...it's like there's a fly buzzing in my ear, but not doing anything more than annoying me.

The Eagles aren't gonna rule the NFC this year... they'll be lucky to rule KFC (hah!). I'm with Vette; my Vikings didn't get it done last year (and a big ..|., to Arizona for making a stupid move and keeping the Vikes out of the playoffs, when a loss could've helped them in the draft instead), but with key moves and pickups in the off/preseason they're primed to take it all the way.

McNabb and the Eagles are overrated... no offense, Snipe, but they're goin' down quicker than a Frenchie's rifle under fire.

Hehehe, let's see if you're singing that tune on Tues morning after the monday night game. :)

Eagles will be 13-3 this year, and go to the super bowl.

New England will threepeat for the first time in NFL history though.

That's my bold prediction.

Vikings....lol.

Do you guys even have a defense?

Let's see, shall we?

2003 season -

Points allowed: Minn - 335, Phi - 281 (I'll give you that)
Sacks: Minn - 37, Phi - 38 (ooh, close)
Interceptions: Minn - 28, Phi - 13 (uh-oh)
Fumble Recoveries: Minn - 7, Phi - 13 (only 4 more)
Safeties: Minn - 2, Phi - 1
Blocked Kicks: Minn - 1, Phi - 2
*TOUCHDOWNS*: Minn - 4, Phi - 1 (boo-hoo)

So you could argue that Philly has the better of the two, seeing as they allowed 54 less points (4.5 points per game) than the Vikes; however, Minnesota scored 51 touchdowns in the regular season (compared to Philly's 43), giving them 56 more points scored than Philly (4.67 points per game), so the extra points their defense let slip were covered by an increasingly effective offense.

Sacks is a tie (1 more for Philly, big deal), Minnesota has over TWICE Philly's interceptions, Philly takes fumble recoveries, Minnesota's got safeties, Philly's got blocked kicks, and Minnesota's defense scored 3 more TD's than Philly did.

So to answer your question in a nutshell, Sniper, yes we do indeed have a 'D'. And come September 20th, McNabb and the rest of Philly's Fleagles are gonna feel it.

The Eagles put up those defensive numbers last year with 5 linemen out for the season, and without two guys named Kearse and Douglass. ;)

Eagles will have 65+ sacks this year. Another of my bold predictions.

In 3 pre-season games, McNabb has hit Owens for 2 deep bomb touchdowns.(1 got called back for some kind of penalty).

Eagles will be a powerhouse this year....barring injuries, which can change everything.

Okay, uh...

Last year 8 teams hit 40+ sacks (the leader, Baltimore, only hit 47). You expect Philly to nearly DOUBLE their sacks because of Douglass and Kearse? That's quite a tall order in my opinion...

I remember a lot of Eagle teams that eclipsed the 65 sack mark.

Of course they had a D-line that consisted of White, Simmons, Brown, and Golic.

This years line is Kearse, Douglass, Simon, and Thomas.

The whole point behind bold predictions is that they're BOLD! ;)

Yeah...I have to give it up to Snipe, Philly looks awfully tough this year. I would normaly say that talent does not always equate to wins (case example would be my Oakland Faiders) but, with the coaching of Andy Reid, and his ability to get wins out of marginal talent over the years...With the supporting cast and defensive upgrades. Philly is the team to beat in the NFC, if not the NFL (Though New England could make a compelling argument for that title)

I love Jim Johnson's attacking blitzing style, and it was the addition of the pass rushers that enabled Philly to go with younger blood in their secondary...

Hey Warthog 30, how can you bring up the Cleveland Browns and not make a reference to the great Browns teams of the early 80's? Brian Sipe and the "cardiac kids" have to be one of the most underated group of players of all time...Bernie Kosar had some good years as well, very savy QB, despite his ugly mechanics...

Bud Carson was a great coach too. He was MAGNIFICENT as the Def. Coordinator of the Eagles in the early 90s.

I seem to remember touting the PATRIOTS here about this time last year. You remember those guys. They are the ones who won how many games in a row.....and gave up how many sacks in the playoffs? Oh yeah 15 and none. The Vikings look good, and so do the Eagles, however, they have a delightful habit of choking like a dog on a chicken bone don't they. Maybe the Lions will win four games this year.....I won't hold my breath though. Cleveland will probably win 9 as long as Garcia stays upright and healthy. Once again, I won't hold my breath. This years surprise, Cincinatti. I think they'll go double digits.
The Ravens defense should be impressive with the help of an old hand named Prime Time, he still can haul ass. I think I heard him clock the 40 at only 2/10 of a second slower than his prime, which was around 4.2 if memory serves. With that knowledge, experience, and speed he should, I say, Should be the comeback player of the year with Gannon being his competition if he holds up.
Now what about the chiefs.....still no friggin defense to speak of. The colts and tennessee will look the same as last year, lotsa offense and just an ever so slightly lacking defense. Each team needs a playmaker. The titans lost theirs to Philly and the colts just don't have that guy yet.
Panthers......they just won't look nearly as good this year, can you say cinderella and find me a glass slipper to try on? Jags.....I think they will do better than their record will show. Meaning a lot of very close games. Young quarterbacks will do that to you. The rams will desperately miss their o-line but have that savvy to work around it. God save the 49ers. Those poor bastards. I think they are gonna call Joe Montana and ask him how he feels. The bears are gonna start diggin up Payton and call Dr. Frankenstein. They are gonna blow as well. They had a receiver. Just one.
Miami.....nothing needs to be said there or in Buffalo. Jets are a toss up. I guess it depends on their defense mostly.
The seahawks, hassleback, alexander and company will do very well this year. I think 1600 yards and 15 td's are on the menu for their rb this season.
At least the chargers have lt2. They also have cheap tickets I suppose. Oh yeah, nice weather. Did I already say something about Tomlinson? Cards? Go emmitt. Go to the rest home brother. Go! I see an offensive rookie of the year is Boldin's injury keeps him to week 7. Other that fitzgerald and Freddie jones they have nothing. Except for a cute cheerleader. With a nice tan.
The packers will be their normal 10 win or so selves. Favre will show further signs of age, and further flashes of why he will get in the hall of fame on his first go. Their defense lies on the dreaded one who wants more cash. Toss up, without McKenzie, they are sorely lacking.
The bucs need a #1 receiver that they will pay like a number one and the raiders need a retirement plan and geriactric care providers. Christ its like an aarp club in Oakland!
I'd like to think that I've pontificated enough about the foozball today. I hope you have enjoyed the smith report. Have a day.

The Vikes suck Bigvette...Randy Moss is dominant against second tier defensive backs, but gets completley handcuffed by the Charles Woodson's and Champ Bailey's of the league...I like Culpepper and think he is a stud, but Minnesota has never shown me to be a physical team...They have improved, but I wouldn't lump them in Philly's league. The only NFC Teams I think that have a shot this year, other than Philly is Seattle & Green Bay, Carolina I believe is going to go Milly Vanilly on us.

AFC, is the Pats to lose...
