Urgent! Anna Politkovskaya possibly poisoned on her way to NorthOssetia (grani.ru)
The grani.ru website quotes the editorial staff of Novaya Gazeta of the
following:
Anna Politkovskaya tried to fly to Beslan on the same plane that took
Dr. Roshal (who was supposed to negotiate with the hostage-takers),
since she also intended to talk to them. But neither she nor other
journalists were allowed to leave. Then the commander of another plane
going to Rostov personally took her on board. Immediately after landing
in Rostov, Politkovskaya felt ill and lost consciousness. She was sent
to the resuscitation unit at the central clinic in Rostov with symptoms
of a strong poisoning and is now under a dropper in a serious but stable
condition. While the doctors are still trying to find the toxin, the
editorial staff of Novaya Gazeta fears that she could have been poisoned
in the same way as Yury Shchekochikhin.
