I was watching the news yesterday down in Georgia and caught the tickertape about that Marine that was held hostage a few months back. The news tape said that they found a bunch of his personal belongings in Fallujah. I wonder what kind of personal things ? Either he was held there or he had family there. Any conspiracy theorists out there ? By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson |

If I'm thinking of the same story you are, it was that soldier that tried to desert. He was of Middle Eastern descent, and 'supposedly' was led off-post by a group of locals, only to be "handed over to the insurgents." The insurgents then made a video showing him blindfolded, and the general public was led to believe that he was decapitated. Later they discovered that the soldier had family in Syria (or some neighboring country, don't remember exact details) and had contacted them, saying he was going to be home shortly. Basically I think the bastard made the whole damn thing up and was trying to go AWOL. They found his passport, military I.D. and his uniform (which they said had been altered somehow) in Fallujah. I think he was planning on getting rid of all ties to the U.S. and the USMC there, and was going to head home and leave it at that. Apparently he wasn't as slick as he thought he was. “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” Benjamin Franklin, 1759 |

It's the same soldier. His family was in Lebanon. He's since been returned to his unit, and is now serving a second tour in Iraq. "Molon labe". Leonidas, King of Sparta, Thermopylae, 480 B.C. |
