Don't do Bullpup stocks.

I'm a Southpaw,

Last time somebody gave me an SA80 to play with it was about to squeeze of a few rounds until I looked at the bolt.

When I held the rifle in the go postion and pull the bolt back, it conincided nicely with my front teeth ...

Look sexy though...

the AUG is fully umm "leftable" by the user, I think you get a different bolt and then just switch the ejector port plug to the other side.

You don't need a new bolt. I don't remember the procudure(its been about 16 years since i shot an Aug), but it's just a matter of swapping parts around IIRC.

quote:
Steyr's newest offering, the AUG (Armee Universal Gewehr), is a space-age assault rifle with many appealing features. Based on the bullpup design, the AUG is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge.
The AUG is an ambidextrous rifle as the bolt is replaceable and the ejection port may be moved to either side of the receiver. Even the carrying strap swivels may be repositioned for convenient port-side carry.

Cool Beans...

I'll have three then...

I'm starting to wonder about the MoD's procurement arm. Why the f*** couldn't they either buy or specifiy an anbidextrous AR?

When I asked the QuaterMaster about the stupid bolt positioning his reply was "The Amrmy trains lefty freaks to shoot right handed".

Talk about a stupid idiot, especially for established and capable shooter, since in many cases, you shoot your master eye, not your hand (per me). Besides, I've noticed a tendency for left-handed shooters to generally be superior to the majority of right-handers I've observed during competition.

Why is it the biggest fools of most April Fools' jokes are the implementers?

I remember runing a few practical pistol stages weak handed and it used to freak me out.

The problem with my old .45 ACP was it used to eject into my face (no homo comments please) or in summer time down the front of my T-shirt.

One time during a timed run a hot brass lodged between the bridge of my nose and my Oakley's. That was a little warm and slightly distracting.

in DS1 the SA80 performed so badly that they apparently brought the FAL back into service for some units.

Yep,

Absolutely true.

Although I think the British SLR's were designated FN, not FAL. Same thing, different name I recon.

The MoD then spent a serious whack of dough to re-fit them all, and they are still piles of crap.

Trit, About 15 years back there was a whole series of real low rent videos of babes in next to no clothes firing automatic weapons.

Can't remember for the life of me what they were called.

But real captivating watching after a few beers ...

"One time during a timed run a hot brass lodged between the bridge of my nose and my Oakley's. That was a little warm and slightly distracting."

I had that happen to me while qualifying with an M-16A1 one day. The ejected brass got caught in my chin strap and immediately started burning the shit out of my cheek.
I just had to grin and bear it so i didn't miss my firing opportunity at the next pop-up.

Shot a 39 of 40 that day...my worst ever effort.
