I read an interesting little news blurb that a state senator from New Jersey has proposed banning smoking in all vehicles because it's too distracting. Now, if you want to light up in my car, you'll be asked to step outside and since I usually drive in the mid 80's (faster if I think I can get away with it) it could be a painful experience but that's MY decision. As one person interviewed said "the day I can't light up in my car is the day they can take over my payments". Perhaps CD players are next? That was followed closely by this: What next??! Belmar bans Beer Pong! They obviously never heard of good, clean fun! (BELMAR, N.J.) Keep the beer pong and games of quarters inside. In the ongoing tussle between summer renters and year-round residents of this seaside community, the borough council has banned outdoor games involving alcohol. The so-called ``Beer Pong'' ordinance, which goes into effect Aug. 17, prohibits alcohol-related games or contests on porches, decks, lawns, front and side yards, or anywhere that can be viewed by the public and neighbors. Fines begin at $100 for a first offense. Adopted last week, the regulation takes its name from a drinking game in which players bounce pingpong balls into cups of beer, with successful bounces triggering rounds of drinking. Borough Clerk Margaret Plummer said residents near some rental areas have complained about people playing such games on their front lawns, getting progressively drunk and noisy. Belmar, located about halfway between Manhattan and Atlantic City, has an offseason population of 6,000 that Plummer said can surge to 70,000 on a hot summer weekend. Some summer renters, such as Michael Todd, say the borough is trying to drive out young people who provide an economic boost to the area. Todd, 27, filed a complaint against a police officer who issued him a summons for playing Wiffle ball, the Asbury Park Press reported in Wednesday's newspapers. ``I didn't know Belmar all of (a) sudden turned into a big dictatorship borough,'' Todd said. I can remember playing a version of beer pong at the NCO club at Bitburg. We called it quarters and you bounced a quarter into a glass of apfel korn instead of beer. The club management didnt care and even seemed to enjoy watching the festivities. You can't be considered a failure if someone can use you as a bad example. |

If they already have noise and um "dissorderlyness" laws they dont need this one. But that's what happens when laws arnt enforced and Pols want to show that they are doing something. As for smoking in a car, I dont smoke but I can tell you eating is at leaste as distracting if not more-so. A 9mm MAY expand, but a 45 will NEVER shrink! |

Then there's those nifty GPS moving map displays just starting to show up in "finer" automobiles! Talk about something that'll take your eyes off the road to see wth you are (in a ditch; oncoming traffic; the trunk of the guy stopped in front of you, etc.) "Duct tape is like the Force.
