Anyone here ever given a thought to going into the private sector of war. A contractor for short. I know companies offer aviation. I think Blackwater flies Casa 212 and i know there are a few other companies that offer aviation. They pay a lot higher than military, last i heard a few thousand a day in combat zones. Anyone have any info or know anyone who does this thanks. Thanks Kyle |

You can make 100K a year with overtime and per diem in a combat zone but as a civilian, you're not allowed to carry weapons of any sort. The bad guys know this and target contractors. Don't know about you but getting my head lopped off on TV is not what I want for my 15 minutes of fame. There are many companies that provide contractor services in Iraq, the specialties they're looking for are helicopter structures/avionics and vehicle maintenance. The going rate is around twenty bucks an hour plus hazardous pay and per diem. You're allowed to work up to 80 hours a week with time and a half after 48 hours. If the desert isn't your thing, you might want to look at a company called DynCorp. They provide aviation services with OV-10's (civilian registry) for drug eradication protection (read into that what you will) and CASA 212's for trash hauling in a certain Central American country. It's a State Department contract and not as bad a deal risk wise. It's a ten seven work schedule which means ten days "in country", seven days home. As a former Contract Field Team guy, my email is filled with all kinds of "stuff" from various companies. If you or someone you know are interested, contact me directly, I'll give you a bunch of links. OC |

OC, We've got quite a few guys in Iraq at the minute. As you say they are not allowed to carry weapons but are always accompanied by a 6 man PSD (two of whom will always be ex-Brit forces (mostly SFO)). The PSDs do offer the civilians weapons training if they want it. The argument being if the PSD is disabled but their weapon is available the civilian can use it to defend themselves or more realistically blow their own brains out rather than have it done on Al-Jarhira Any thoughts on the above? You're born, you keep your head down and you die. If you're lucky... |

It'd at the very least buy you a moment if your about to be kidnapped by the kind of people who'd behead you in front of a camcorder, and odds are actually wish to go on living over the 72 virgin idea they sell to suicide bombers. <img src="http://moveamericaforward.org/Images/Emails/ILoveGitmo.jpg" border=0> |
