Nice toy...

I'm probably about to show myself as an ass here, but wasn't it Colt that did the 'snakes' thing with the Python and Annaconda and possibly a King Cobra, but I only added that last one because it sounded cool and probably never existed.

I'm stuck too...

It's a Smith alright, and looks like a medium framed one.

If I was a guessing man, I'd suggest it was based on a 4" 686. But the sights aren't like a std 686, they look like competition ones.

But I've never seen one with a ventilated top strap so what ever it is, it must have had some serious (and expensive) work done.

The grips are nice and match the style of the gun very well, but I'm a soft handed wimp and would stick some Houges on it.

A very nice looking piece, but I've always had a soft spot from wheel guns.

Strat,

I had some friends in the RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary) in NI and the GP100's were std issue.

They loved them.

I didn't get to shoot them much, but the little experience I've had with Rugers suggest they are very solidly and well built.

LOL - I had no idea, I thought S&W only did numbers...

It shows I've got a natural talent for naming things, just x number of years late.

That sucks, it could have been a real good money earner to pre-register names for things and then charge the manufacturers a royalty each time they wanted to use a name.

I've always thought 'Spitfire' would be a cool name for a plane, I wonder if it'll ever catch on..?

That's a Colt you are looking at .44, Boomer is playing a joke on you.

Ugh, I have a GP100, from experience the S&W equivalent is FAR superior in ease and smoothness of trigger pull in DA.

He's half right, it IS a Colt but the sight I found it on said it was S&W.

OK, if I'd have looked I'd have seen the naff Colt cylinder release and the clockwise rotating cylinder, but I made the fundemental mistake of trusting Boomer <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>...

As for the Ruger / S&W debate, I would agree that the S&W had the nicer pull, but from an undercover coppers point of view the high levels of abuse the GP100 was obviously built to take were a big plus.

I loved the build quality of S&W that's why most of my collection was S&W and whilst I'm sure they were just as strong as the equivilent Ruger (leaving aside the Super Redhawk) there was something about the quality of the Smith's that made you feel guilty about abusing them.

Whereas the Ruger gave the distinct impression that it liked to be treated rough and dirty... You know what I mean, like finding a really fit chick that doesn't make you take a shower first...
