I have a job interview tomorrow with a company named L3 for a maintainer slot. They support the A-10, F-16, and C-130 workload and I don't know which airframe this position is for but, at this point I don't really care it's a job.

My contract is up on Tuesday of next week and if I don't find work I will be storing my stuff here and moving back to VA (mom's house) unit I can find work somewhere.

Dice, finding good qualified wrench benders is very hard these days at the depot (hence the co-op program) I have a feeling it will turn out well for you. The guys that I have known that "defected" to the darksid.....er....I mean C-130 have all enjoyed it.

I got a job offer today and will start as soon as my background check comes back in 2-4 weeks. That's not a big problem because I have saved enough money to get me through Dec.

I will be working the F-16 Fighting Falcon!! To tell you the truth I asked to be put on another airframe because of some things that have happen to me this past year. I'm very disappointed with a lot of facets of the A-10 world here at Hill...and that's as far as I will go on that subject. Also it will help prepair me for the F-22, who's workload will be here in the future.

I'm going to keep-up with door art and try to finnish my book this winter. M&M looks like you have some "Viper" company now!

Great News Dice,
(I'm still scratching my head on why it would take so long on a background check for an Old Ex Lifer?)But hey its a New World.

Congrats Dice, I knew it would work out for you. I would imagine I will see you in an egress class at the very least. They dont have me teaching the lawndart stuff lately, its been the A-10 and gearing up for the F-22. They going to get you on days or swings?

Dice,

Congrats on the new job, I'm sure you'll enjoy working for L-3 just not sure about that pointy nose aircraft though... :-)

Goose,

Thats a good question, you'd think that a 20 year vet who already had a security clearance would have his background check in no time but for some reason it doesn't work that way. I've been waiting for 4 months just for computer access so I can do CAMS and it doesn't sound as though it's going to happen anytime soon. Oh well I always hated CAMS anyway, so maybe they'll take even longer :-)

Goose, yea you would think my old security clearance would be enough but it's not. O'well I can use some time off over the holidays just to get in a new mind-set.

M&M, I will be starting-out on days but could go to any shift after that. Yea, I'm sure I will be seeing you for an egress class and maybe a FAM class also. I'm sure you know I will be working in 225, we will have me meet at the base restaurant for lunch once I get setteled-in.

I was just wondering, in 1999 I was offered a Job(They still had me on the American Legion Employment list) That needed a Security Clearance and they told me "I was good to go already that my Clearance was approved" I turned it down anyway.
It must of been the "Pre- 9-11 " way.

I could see if you were out for "Years but not really Months"

Post 9-11, every new hire requires a re-verification of security clearances regardless of your previous status.

Too bad you didn't get the hog Dice, the old girl needs all the help she can get. Second would have been the 130, sounds ugly but it's not a bad transition. I managed it, actually enjoyed working on something I could stand up in and see what I was doing without a flashlight and a mirror. There's a lot of system similarities, just times 4. If there hadn't been a change in corporate philosophy about what's important in aircraft maintenance, I'd probably still be working 130's instead of driving a FedEx truck (just sign anywhere in the block and thanks for using FedEx). Now, to illustrate just how screwed up we've gotten in this country, I'll tell you I make more money running packages than I've ever made working on aircraft. Figure that one out.

Anyway, congrats Dice, you'll have absolutely no problem adapting to the contract maintenance world.

You wouldnt want any of the ones I made unless your life was in the balance they were to keep you alive as in Plasma and other Anti-viral drugs that the French make now since someone didnt have a brain cell to make sure the US kept at least "ONE" drug maker in the US making this kind of stuff..

I go to work on the 20th of Dec. I figure it will be a slow time during the Holidays so I can meet people and ease into the new job, and I get paid for Christams break.

I know my old legs and hands are going to pay the price for working in an office the past 7 years!
