I love a good argument and this will probably start one. What do you guys use to clean and then perserve or lube your weapons? I prefer Breakfree products. They remove residue and fouling very well and do a good job of perserving the finish on my weapons. |

I use breakfree in a normal climate, or teflon powder in a desert or arctic climate. |

Half the brain donors in support don't know what VVL800 is, so I've learned to adjust myself to ask for breakfree. |

Over the years I've used LSA, LAW, Breakfree, WD-40, Motor oil, Hopps, PD-680, 3-N-1, Tri-Flon, and even spit, and for Stainless Steel, I've used Dri-Slide which contains MolyB. On the GAU-8 we used MolyB exclusivly in the gun lube resivior and a MolyB Grease in the Muzzle bearing. My personal favorite is Tri-Flon, which has a teflon element to it, and holds up well under high heat. I used to swear by Breakfree, but the AF dropped it for a while as being a known carcenagen (SP), (known to cause cancer). Yet, it's still found in the inventory and does work really well. The worst to use is Spit, but it does work better than nothing. |

: I don't know when you worked the GAU-8 but we never used MolyB in the lubricator. MIL-46000 or more commonly called camel come. MolyB in the forward bearing as you stated and MIL-23287 in the the inner bearings. VVL-800 on the barrels and exterior of the gun. Of course they have probably gotten rid of some of this stuff now. |

Good catch Fender. You're right, now that you triggered my weary gray matter. The Moly B was the heavy grease we used on the barrel berings, and not what we used in the res. My Bad. |
