Raven....I remember that. It was not too long after I left Spang. One of my best friend's who was the crew chief on 991 had gone to A/R and was there when the accident happened. He sent me quite a few good pictures of 985 sitting in the golf course. I think I lost them though. It's a shame, they were on an old hard drive. Nice talkin to ya.....

Here's a nice shot of 971, a Spang jet that ended-up on the golf course in Osan after a throttle cable broke on landing. This is a shot after it was repaired but before it got painted....

Dice, you say 971 was a Spang jet that had landed on the golf course at Osan? I don't remember a 971 at Spang, but I could be wrong. Was it an add on to the base at one time?

Got new pics up! Scanned some coins from the AEF rotation, and started a new album, "OEF/OIF Memoribilia" at http://photos.yahoo.com/thelastraven13.

prkii: Hmmm...I'll have to find someone going through Qatar to get the OIF one...but I'll get ahold of some of the guys at Spang to see if anymore of the 81 AMU coins are being ordered.

Added patches to the OEF/OIF Mem. album...nothing TOO impressive, but figured I'd update. Certificates did not scan so well, will try again tomorrow. They are Airman of the Month for the 81 EFS, 455 EOG, and 455 AEW...as well as the generic 455 EOG service certificate...

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Chief: Sounds similar to the story of 985, which parked on the golf course one day, shortly before I arrived at Spang. If you dig back through the forum, I know there is a story about that around here.

Raven

Some nice patches, can you hook up some more of those as well? The green Panthers patch, the desert Panthers patch with gold writing,a nd the CAS patch with the Viper marked out in particular. I know the OIC of the snacko at Spang, he's the FNG but a really nice guy, so if you need a POC drop me a line.

Cheers! M2

The nose gear sheared off as the jet left the runway.
The mishap was the result of too high a landing speed, instead of a throttle setting of idle the pilot still had about 80% on both engines and was unable to slow it before the end of the runway.
He ejected at about 40 knots with some 300 feet of runway remaining, the jet then ploughed off the end of the runway onto the golf course.
