Hi Folks,
Just wondering if we have anyone in here that remembers the tail number of the 510FS Flagship(if there was one?)back in 1993 before the sqd became the 81FS?

I'm a scale modeller from the UK,who wants to add a early Spang jet to go with his late Spang,Bentwaters & Alconbury jets

cheers,
Gary

In Mr. Don Logan's book "a pictorial history" shows 80-0160 in the squadrons flagship colors in July 1988.

Thanks Dice-man,
But in 1988 the 510th was still at Bentwaters..
the jet i want to build is Spangdalhem jet around 1993 when the unit transferred to the 52nd Fighter Wing...

The 510th became the 81st Fighter Sqd in late 1994 after the final F-4G Wild Weasels returned to the US...

I know the basic 510th markings were the same as the later 81st FS ones,i'm just trying to figure out which jet was marked up as the 510FS flagship if there was one??

i would just like to add a early grey Spangdalhem jet to by other Green and late grey 'WR',Green 'AR' and late grey 'SP' Hogs in my collection of models..

cheers,
Gary in the UK

Gary, sorry I can't help then, I looked through all my "suff" and have a few pictures of 510th jets after the move to Spang but, none are in the 510th squadron colors.

Round about the '93 time-frame, the late 82-655 appeared at Mildenhall for the airshow with a Lt Colonel's name on the side, seeing as 655 had been the last CO's jet at WR, the most likely scenario is that 655 was the boss bird after the 'Buzzard' transfer to SP.
81-952 was......and maybe still is, used by the Wing CO.

82-0655 was (also) the King's bird at WR...

Here it's got the GUNSMOKE logo on the nose...and the tanks...

Unfortunately, these are the only pics I could find from Spang...

<i>(This shot was allegedly taken minutes before 82-0655 crashed...source: http://users.pandora.be/SGKoksijde/nieu ... 02_eng.htm)</i>

Do a 'Google' search on the tail number (not an image search, a web search)...http://www.airliners.net has some shots, as do a few other web sites (http://www.irishairpics.com/database/photo/1000967/), but they won't let me link them to post them here...

Just an interesting factoid, but 82-0655 was one of the last two jets at Bentwaters (81-0982 was the other) which left on 23 march 1993. Both had the 'WR' removed for the transfer to Spang. <i>(source: http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/oldstuff/r ... waters.htm)</i>

Cheers! M2

Before the squadrons began disbanding at WR, '655 spent its time with the 91st TFS 'Blue Streaks' over at RAF Woodbridge, then after the disbandment of the 'Streaks' it was made 'boss bird' replacing 80-181 which had returned Stateside.

I do miss seeing those old Bentwaters/Woodbridge & Alconbury Hogs buzzing around the local Norfolk/Suffolk countryside here...
